I recently found this model file in the main vps and media vps of freespace 2 but couldn't find a use for it??
Can anyone tell me what is the purpose of this model!
Or is it like Supercap2s-01.pof in the babylon project main vps.
(Seriously,what is a sathannas model doing in a babylon 5 vp?? :))

I think it was originally going to be used as a model for laser weapons but was dropped in favor of bitmaps.

It was used on a weapon called the 'Debug Laser' in the old FS1 OEM, which was used for shooting down bugs.

Because the people who put it together got sloppy.

Also, questions generally end with question marks.

Also, you should consolidate your myriad questions in a single thread. It would probably annoy people less.

I did not know i was annoying someone.
OK,now i will try to group my questions in a single thread!
I just thought that separate threads to seperate topics might be a good idea.Sorry!

I prefer your questions in separate threads with appropriate titles so that I'm not hearing about armor.tbl in capship turret threads. :P

dont worry x3110, there are a few easily trod on toes around here that dont understand the concept of newbie, just dont rise to the bait when some of the less flexibly minded start spouting flame and you will be fine.  Tbh (this is more a reference to a comment made towards you in another thread but i dont see any point multi posting)  i'm finding your enthusiasm a refreshing change to the go read the wiki attitude around here, yes its useful but i think a few forget that not all of us are modelers/artists/programmers so not all of it makes sense to the amater enthusiast trying to contribute, also it doesn't cover everything.  not only that but the threads have pointed out possibilities to me i hadn't thought of

keep asking!!!  :D

Okay, you DO know that reading the wiki is always a good idea? You DO know that, since it's a WIKI, you can edit information found there? You DO know that, if you point out unclear areas on the wiki, they usually get clarified after some time? You DO know that the wiki IS THERE FOR A REASON? That reason being to take care of all the basic questions? You DO know that one of the major problems we have in support is that NOONE EVER READS THE GUIDES?

Seriously, telling people that it's OK to not read the documentation we do have is mind-boggingly stupid. If you feel that the information presented there is so useless for the newbie, TELL US ABOUT IT SO WE CAN MAKE IT BETTER! If you don't understand the explanations on the wiki, feel free to ask for clarification. But personally, I feel that you should at least try to read them before asking.

@ Qent:
Well obviously off-topic posts are bad. But if the topic is "x3110's big list of questions", that's not off topic.

@ headdie:
If nobody corrects the newbies when they do something newbish, then they will continue doing newbish things. So you'll wind up with long-time members who act like newbies.

@ x3110:
Yeah, I understood that much. It's just that with so many questions (many of them about technical terms/definitions -- some of them not even specific to FreeSpace), you might be better off looking stuff up yourself. The forums are available to you, but you shouldn't let yourself become reliant on them. Also, if you're completely overwhelmed with terms (i.e. if the definition of something leaves you even more confused than you were before you looked it up), try asking on IRC. There's a thread in the Announcements board with instructions and information about how to get onto the #hard-light IRC channel, if you don't know already.

Oh, and don't take it personally. Everyone (myself included) was once a newbie. As long as you do your best to learn from your mistakes, I've got no reason to hold this stuff against you. Hopefully you won't hold a grudge either.

OK, I think a little clarification is needed to what I posted, my comments regarding the wiki were made in reference to the difficulty in understanding some areas of the wiki, that it is in places incomplete and weren't meant to be taken as don't read the wiki.  I'm sorry to all those who have contributed to the wiki who have taken my as don't read the wiki and/or as an open attack of the wiki.

@Aardwolf
I agree with you that when newbies "do something newbish" they need guidance but there have been times when I have seen someone post a question and/or request and I have felt that the posters treatment has been harsh.
