So the website mektek has a free version of mechwarrior mercenaries available for download. Its a pretty old game, but its fun. Just in case anyone is interested.

This has to be the worst release I've seen.  MekTek's MTX launcher, which is required for installation and updates, is a total piece of ****.

While MTX is a pain to deal with, if you can get it running just good enough to download and apply updates then MW4M can be run standalone.  I'm have a blast (literally) now and again with my Twin CLBX20, Hex SPLAS wielding Thanatos XT.  If you ever hear 'BOOM pewpewpewpewpewpew BOOM' then its probably me stripping your rear armour.

Oh no, I'm delighted MW4 is finally free (how the hell did they convince MS to do this?), I'm just disappointed because of how much work it is to get it installed.

Hehe, it's quite clever really, not that I'm knocking the free game, but it seems to me that the reason it's been released free is to make sure that MTX could be live-tested with the defence that 'Hey, it's free, don't complain!' when the bugs show up

Still, it's a fair trade-off I suppose

**** yes. MW4 Mercs was the only MechWarrior game I've ever played, but I loved it when I first played it.
Time to go through it again (on a legit version ), and with the expansions too!

EDIT: lol I still have the original *cough* version installed...should I uninstall it before installing this one, or should I just not bother with MTX and play the old one with less guilty consience now...decisions decisions...?

yeah, that was a pain in the ass to get installed.  never played any mechwarrior games, looking forward to it.  for those with experience, is it best played FPS style with the mouse or with a joystick?

I never could get MTX working, so I torrented the game. From what I could tell, MTX would have torrented it anyway.

Yeah, MTX torrents it.
But wow, the MTX version has so much stuff my old version...doesn't have.

I am very looking forward to using that bigass railgun.

It's fun, but I miss the epic MW2 soundtrack.

Also, forget the Marauder II. Get a Behemoth II instead and have fun with that railgun.
