Hello together,

I got a huge headache because of this situation:

I tried the Babylon 5 Mod for the Freespace Open Source Engine, and I was suprised by already knowing this engine: the configuration menues, the mission briefing, etc; ingame the 3d-map, the fast-motion mode, the menue showing "radio" communication messages by the game etc etc.

All this stuff, I knew it already, and I was very sure that it was because of "Star Wars: X-Wing VS TIE Fighter" (short: XvT) had it included.

But today, I installed the old XvT and I was disappointed of not being close to the experience of Bab5 mod for Freespace.

Now, I am trying to figure out _what game it is_ that I remember so well, but not being a mod for Freespace. I am quite sure it was a Star Wars game, and that I spent lots of time with it, years ago.

I just don't get _what that game_ was, and my head hurts of trying to remember and the confusion as this is not a huge "deja vu".

Can anyone help me to figure out to give my head and mind a relief???

Somehow, I get the impression that he a) didn't play TBP but rather B5: I've Found Her (which has got nothing whatsoever to do with FreeSpace Open), and b) that he may be talking about X-Wing Alliance.

Oh sorry dudes... I have been MUCH TOO TIRED when I posted this message...!!!

a) this is the wrong sub forum (this is "programming" and not "Gaming Discussion" - so I am sorry! SORRY Mods, could You move the thread? Plz :-)

b) It is NOT X-Wing Alliance - I checked plenty of screenshots and I can exclude this game.

c) Let me try to explain this subject - as I have had enough sleep, at this moment:

As I tried the Bab5 mod (TBP) for Freespace SCP, I recognized many elements of the game (not the B5 "content" stuff, but the menus, the way configuration is done, some features of the game engine) which I expected to be in Star Wars: X-Wing vs TIE Fighter (short XvT).

As I installed XvT I recognized that it hadn't been this game engine being so close to what I got with Freespace/TBP. So I started to search for the game which I had played in the past and which used the Freespace Engine.

At this point, I just cannot figure out which game it is I am looking for.

d) The game I am looking for, could be based on the Freespace 1 or 2 engine (as I looked at the screenshots here). I know this information is very ... arbitrary, but the type of menu system both used is "the most clear hint" I can give.

e) The game I am looking for is NOT X-Wing, TIE-Fighter nor is it Freespace 1 or 2 - as far as I remember the latter 2 I have never played before.

f) Why does it matter, at all? I just am soooo confused to remember a game that I must have played for many, many hours, but there is "no evidence" to be true. My mind is twisted and I want to bend it back, again. Please help ;-) !

No, sorry! I never heard of "Tachyon: The Fringe" (and I did a search, to confirm). And yes, it is most likely to be a Star Wars game. But as my memory is a bit blurry... it could be something else.

There are a few old SW models floating about onn the net, notable the ISD and an w-wing.

Maybe you played a mod?

a) no, I don't think it was a mod, since I can't find any in the Freespace Wiki that I know

b) it might be NOT a Star Wars game. Even if I can't imagine any other "universe" this could have been in.

In hindsight, WC3 + 4 are incredibly similar in layout to FS, WC4 features less cockpit and more hud though so it may be similar (Flight mode) at least to FS.
