Ramming should be doable simply using engine physics, but it would be ugly. You could have an ability to enable the 'kamikaze' flag, but you'd die in the process.

What about an abandon ship command? Either at less than ten percent hull or anytime?
It'd spawn evac pods which carry over experience and key personnel?

And being able to command a capship sounds like a Derek Smart game. Doesn't mean it is :P
Fact of the matter is, if it's to be done it needs to be done properly. In BSG's case, controlling fighters is pretty much a necessary part of commanding a battlestar.

I could set up BARCAP commands if you ordered the wing to, for instance, attack a nav buoy. They'd then follow a waypoint path...but without dynamic waypointmovement I can't see how to keep it around your ship.

A simple 'guard me' command would be easier.

How are those different from the usual commands you can give to fighters, though? Those would of course be available.

Depending on the ship you could do something with setting weapon/ammo types.

Definitely. As well as swapping the ship's AI class - although it's a player ship, the AI class still governs turret weapon fire rates.

That could definitely be arranged, though I imagine you'd only have six buoys, one at each compass point and then one 'up' and 'down'.

Well, from a literal perspective, it is a real-time tactical command game-- an RTT. The big distinction between the two genres (as I see it) is that in an RTS there's a lot more unit-building, base-building, etc., whereas an RTT generally focuses on the units you have available to you. Of course in a typical RTS or RTT you're not in the fray, you're viewing from a distance, with a magical invisible-and-invulnerable flying camera of some sort.
