I don't like the situation i'm in. The last dog we had was an alaskan husky/wolf mix. Very self sufficient and smart dog. My family owns an island out in the middle of the ocean we used to live on until i was 14. We just let the dog go free, no collar or anything. She loved it. Then we moved to interior rural alaska, and i didn't know what to do. So i let her go free one day. Living here for 7 years before she died, she made many human friends, and just did her own thing all around this small town. She'd let you know when she wanted out, in, what she wanted, was playful, performed some guard dog roles, you could take her hunting with you (she'd tease the animal you wanted and keep it distracted so you could pull off a shot (good things like bears and moose)). During summer was interesting, she'd never want to go back in the house, unless winter came. She died at the age of 18, by getting backed over by my mom's friend in the drive way at 5mph. She just happened to choose a bad place to nap in the drive way and she was pretty deaf at the time too.
Never could own a dog after my family's first one again. Normal dogs are too needy, too dependent on you. Then the nightmare, my brother got a new dog finally. Very loving dog, another huskey so it's hyper as ****, playful, and too loyal. Too much attention, i tried letting her go free for a couple of weeks, but people complained. So now i feel bad for the dog because she's on the runner most of the day since she's a bad dog if i let her go free, and i don't have much time to walk her.
Nightmare situation since my brother moved to japan, looking for a family to take the dog, if no family, i have to take her. No, i'll take a cat, i much like them better. Also, my family got lucky scoring such an awesome dog in the first place for the first dog we ever owned.
Again i feel bad for this dog i might end up with because i can't give it all the time and attention it needs. And unless you have a lot of land for the dog to actually be able to do it's own thing, then it's not worth it for the dog just to leave them in the backyard, on a runner, or on a leash walking them down the same ****ing street corner every day (not really a great life for the dog in my head).
Long post, that's my thoughts, i get along with cats much better (want to get a lynx, bobcat, or maine coon)
