Intersting "FS3 Intro" Vid found
Don't know if this has been seen by the Forums already but here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8eJTTeXJsVU

I know it says FS 3

If it wasn't for the title, I would swear that it could be an intro for Blue Planet

Except it's crap. It's cut together from several sources (the retail cutscenes and IceyJones' destruction of Vasuda vid, first and foremost), with a laughable voiceover. It also belongs to a very dead mod.

Who wants FS3 anyway? How boring. We know what's going to happen: final victory over the Shivans.

IMO what's much more fascinating is FS4. In other words, what happens to humanity (and zodanity) once the Shivans are absolutely, definitively, no longer a threat?

Why yes, I do have a campaign setting for this. Don't get your hopes up of ever seeing it though. :)

Re: Intersting "FS3 Intro" Vid found
IMHO, BP is so good that canonical FS3 is not needed and would most likely be of lower quality than it.  :)
New engine wouldn't be likely to be so customizable and may require things like SSE2 or most recent graphics card.
FS2 SCP can be played without those, final release of BP will hopefully also be (right now, models are a bit unoptimized, but we're working on it).
Also, there are many other campaigns (if somebody doen't like BP), which anybody can choose as their own FS3.
So, FS3 for which we'd have to pay is completely unnessesary.

Yeah, and wtf is with the :v: and interplay logos at the beginning?

Seems in the comments the guy tried to justify it as "they made the tech that the game uses", but it's still misrepresentation to claim that they "present a game developed by" such-and-such.

This could end in court if  :v: and Interplay ever found out, so it may be good that this mod is dead.

I doubt that, Interplay would be all over HLP if they really actually cared about the fan usage of the FreeSpace IP.

They would, IF any one of us would be so bold as to stick the Interplay/Volition logo on our self-produced stuff. Corporations generally don't take kindly to people misusing their logos.

It isn't misusing the logo if it was their game to begin with. So in reality, if we didn't use it: wouldn't that be misusing it? Even if it is our own self produced stuff, surely they deserve some credit for the game that ours is based off of? Seeing as its their concept, models (in most cases) and whatnot.

If you put "Based on an original game by Volition/Interplay" you wouldn't have an issue most likely. If you use those logos as if the game you are demoing is actually made by them, you'd have a problem.

It is. They didn't make the thing. The purely Volition and Interplay assests remaining in FSO with MediaVPs enabled continue to shrink, and at this point I'm not certain anyone can certify which parts of the code remain original. Claiming it's still a Volition/Interplay product isn't terribly wise as such.

Companies are extremely sensative about you using their logo on things they didn't make. Or, in fact, using their logo at all, since you are not them. It's somewhere between fraud and plagarism.

Human stupidity...

What pisses me off the most is how on Youtube, the vast majority of crap is simply mislabeled crap.

Fan **** masquerading as "official" or simply failing to mention it's a Fan or Mod or Au or whatever and just says, "This is X"

Sorry, but you are not "x" and the probability is that you are 99.9% not going to be "x".

Pathetic...

Their trademarks are registered, so using them without premission is a crime.
In general, logos and names are very serious buisness, especially if registered.
Also, there's absolutely no reason to give Volition/Interplay credit for what they didn't made.
