Hi friends,
after installing the freespace open with the installer, the following problem are happening continuously:
I start the laucher and run the fs2 open, the game take a time, appear a screen with a ship but it is just to fast to me to see if there´s anithyng  written, but i believe that is the screen of the fs2 open, and then a here a sound and the game stops. After using ctrl +alt+del a screen of c++ windows appear with the following message:

Runtime check failure #3- The variable "Iret" is being used without being defined.

There is the option of retry, ignore or cancel, however, the crash block my mouse and keybord interaction with this window and i can only read it.
What is more interesting is that after i order to close the game with windows manager or just order to the lauch to run again the game usually run without any trouble...

I´m using a windows 7 64 bit pc with 4 gb of ram, and a AMD athlon 64 x2 dual core 5.600+ ~ 2,9 ghz processor, ATI Radeon 3600 1Gb,
I have modified the post in order to provide better information. I attached fs2_open.log to it.

Please read the last post of this thread. Please follow the instructions there to create an fs2_open.log, and post it here.

A quick google search suggests that the crashing dll is part of your Joystick driver; please reinstall that as well.

I have reinstalled my joystick driver twice but it does nto resolve the problem. I tried using the debug version of fs2_open and it runs after clicking ignore...

This definitely sounds like an issue with your joystick drivers if that's the specific message that is appearing. What happens if you completely remove these drivers (making sure the file the error message is referencing is gone too) and launch the game?

I have uninstaled my joystick and the game stopped crashing... however it is impossible for me to play without joystick and i have ever player FS2 and Fs open with the same joystick that have problems now. I will try downloading the driver from clone, however i believe that they don´t have a specific driver for win 7.

Can't you simply plug in your joystick and use the generic Windows drivers for it?

That was what i was doing from the very begining. I will reinstall my joystick using generic software and will play as i was doing: just keep opening several windows of Fs2 until one of them don´t crash. I´m starting to believe that this is an issue specific of windows 7 since it started happening after i changed my operational system from vista to it and the same crash happens when i use fs_open_3_6_10.

No, it's pretty clear that your joystick drivers are crashing.

But why it didn´t happen before? And there´s anyway without changing the joystick to solve this question?

I can't give you an answer to that (being a mouse+kb player). There are several possibilities, although I would guess that maybe the driver you are using is improperly written for Win 7.

Was this an "upgrade" install where you kept all the same files from your previous Vista version, or did you do a clean install?

I have done a clean install at first, with turey installer, and the problems started from the very first time i played. After that i upgraded from FS2_open_3_6_10 to FS2_open_3_6_12 without success solving this problem.

Indeed. I've seen "upgrade"-based installs cause all sorts of issues due to legacy components and avoid them like the plague - generally always better to do it clean. Upgrading from Vista to W7 is spades better than upgrading from XP to Vista, but I tend to hang onto this stance regardless.

Additionally, where did you originally obtain the 'drivers' for this joystick from, out of curiosity? I find it strange that you were still seeing the same crash messages referencing the C:\windows\gm2500\gm20f32.dll file even after you mentioned you had tried the generic Windows drivers - clearly these third party joystick drivers were still present and were being loaded in some way (I'd be surprised if those were first-party Windows drivers as typical Windows installs won't have that gm2500 folder present). I've done some further digging for anything relating to the "GM2500" model, but only found this page so far which doesn't seem to offer any drivers for this joystick. I'm not sure what exact brand you have however so I could be barking up the wrong tree.

I believe that it was a clena install because it was made after my vista got corrupted, however it wasn´t me who made the installation cause it was made for free where i bought the dvd of win7.
About the drivers: Win 7 simply downloaded a driver after i first pluged the joystick. After that i get a copy o of the driver from the manufacturer , however they only have xp and vista drivers. As everything that works in vista works on win 7 i tried the vista driver. However it still showing the same message for me, so i don´t know if ther are others drivers installed, but i believe it doesn´t cause i have uninstalled everything before reinstaling from vista version.
The game seems to work without problems after hiting "ignore" in the error box.
