According to a post by Volition developer Dave Baranec on the HLP forum, it would seem that Volition are furthering their talks with THQ about the current situation of the FreeSpace scene and the future of the FreeSpace series.

There's only two links in that section. The first is to Dave's profile on [V] the second just links to hard-light and not the actual post. That page was last changed March last year.

I'd really like to read the actual quote if at all possibe. Can anyone help me track it down? I ran a search under Baranec but that doesn't appear to be his username here.

Search throuh his messages, there aren't that many of them. This thread is likely what that reference points to, but it's from 2004 and nothing has been heard of it, so... most likely nothing ever came out of it.
