Spoiler:
That was easily one of the best single-player stories I've played through in a long time.  It was extremely difficult to see that twist coming.

It depends. All I see is ridiculous amount of explosions with scripted waves of enemies, respawning infinitely if you stand in the wrong place.

Re: Call of Duty: Black Ops
The action is very much a typical FPS.

But it does have some fun missions and an extremely good storyline.

I have difficulty justifying any game that costs $60.

Assuming you mean (vs. $50) this argument is so stupid. Accounting for inflation game prices have dropped precipitously from 2000. $60 today is less than $50 then.

I don't pay more then $30 for a game is what I'm saying. I can't throw money at stuff like that. Which is why I'm not even going to consider this because I can't pay for it. That's not to say I don't have money, I have ~$400 saved up. It's just I can't pay for stuff like that.

I understand completely and share similar sentiments. Fortunately for us, the world is full of open source and freeware products.

Re: Call of Duty: Black Ops
I suppose this is the plight of people who don't pay for their own food.

When you are all grown up and have a job you'll find that the cost of any given game pales in comparison to what you'll spend weekly on necessities. Incomes are wonderful things, especially lucrative incomes secured by charisma and genius.

Don't get me wrong, I'm going to wait for the price to come down too - games are luxury purchases - but they're not exactly crippling.

By the way, get Steam - Steam sales are the #1 way to get games for absurdly low prices even close to release.

I have never gotten into CoD. Someone who is a fan tell me how it is superior to every other FPS so I will buy it and feel social again.

Re: Call of Duty: Black Ops
It has a few interesting things like the create a class, and character customization as well as kill streaks. But other than that, you're better off buying it if your friends are, and if you don't buy it, I don't think you'll be missing out on much. That said, I don't play many other FPS's apart from the mainstream Halo's and the very occasional CS.

Since COD is an obligatory purchase for all Australian teenage males, the money is going to walk outside of my wallet next Tuesday evening regardless. :D

It's $60 on Steam. Though I *DID* finally buy something on there - SupCom2 with the DLC for $8.50. It was fantastically dissapointing, even after everything bad I'd heard about it.  :doubt: At any rate, it was fun for a few hours (when I unlocked the NOAH for the first time, I yelled "IT'S A GIANT GUN. THAT SHOOTS TANKS!!!"), and it unlocked all the community functions for me. Also, my parents never made me cough up the bills to cover it, so it was free.

This.

I haven't paid full price for a game in 3 years.  If it isn't at least 40% off, I wait.  The Steam Holiday sale around Christmas is insane.  I got Fallout 3 and all it's DLCs last year for something like $23.99... after picking up STALKER for $1.99.

Quickly tab A to dodge freedom-hater bullets? No wait, that's the other game... Still.

Not Call of Duty games, though. This franchise is hilariously resistant to price drops.
I will ask that you explain yourself. Please do so with the clear understanding that I may decide I am angry enough to destroy all of you and raze this sickening mausoleum of fraud down to the naked rock it stands on.

Re: Call of Duty: Black Ops
Is it that hard to ask Infinity Ward and Treyarch to have more challenging enemies instead of just more enemies? I guess it's pretty difficult to withstanding a downpour of bullets from enemies who magically know where I always am but who the hell thinks this is fun? There's no room to maneuver and your enemies don't do anything than just stand there shooting relentlessly.

I wish for the next Call of Duty, Activision will just tell Infinity Ward to focus on multiplayer while they give the singleplayer component to a developer that actually knows how to do singleplayer combat well. Maybe they can put their recently forged partnership with Bungie to use.
