"The currently active campaign cannot be found" with no mod loaded.
Heya,
I have a pilot profile that I played through the FSPort with, as well as half-way through ST:R.
Now if I select "No Mod" in the launcher and apply, it will tell me that "The currently active campaign cannot be found. Please select another..." if I load the same pilot profile. It then prompts me to either go to the campaign room and select a campaign, or select another pilot profile. If I go to the Campaign Room, there are no campaigns to be selected, even though the FS2 campaign should be available.
I can select the FS2 campaign if I create a new profile (though a clone won't work), but I'd really like to keep my stats, as well as not having to do all my binds, etc. all over again.

Can anyone help me out?

Sorry, mate, but you can't keep your stats. You should never use a cross-mod pilot.

You need to create a new pilot for every single mod, until the new pilot code hits (it's in Antipodes) which should allow cross-mod pilots.

At a guess your pilot is corrupted.

Hm, it's just weird, because I know I've been able to do this before, with the exact same pilot profile, only it was half a year ago, and I just reinstalled FSO today, and I'm using my old profile which I had backed up.
Also, it doesn't appear to be corrupted - all the stats are perfectly normal, with nothing out of the ordinary.
Not to mention that I can load the campaigns FreeSpace: The Great War, Operation Templar, Silent Threat and Silent Threat: Reborn perfectly well. It's only the FS2 campaign that won't show up when I unload any mod.

Pilot corruption is very weird and shows up in strange places. I recommend just going to a new pilot.

Also, please post an fs2_open.log showing the issue.

But yeah, I would assume pilot file trouble as well.

Hm, weird. When I ran it in debug mode, I actually got a warning/an error message.

"Tried to load a main hall 6, but valid main halls are only 0 through 1; defaulting to main hall 0"

It means a great deal to me - I've become quite attached to my pilot... :)

I don't think you need the disk in the drive.

Looks like it's trying to open Silent Threat Reborn. But you say this was with no mod selected?

Well you're going to need to create a new pilot file anyway. New pilot code is coming and I doubt your existing pilots will transfer to that, but after that handoff you should be OK for cross-mod pilots.

Still nothing...
I've noticed that my pilot profile consists of several files - Commander Skafsgaard.pl2, Commander Skafsgaard.freespace.cs2, Commander Skafsgaard.str.cs2, plus there's also a file called just .FreeSpace2.cs2 in the \data\players\single\inferno directory.
What's the .FreeSpace2.cs2 one? Doesn't seem to be associated with any one pilot.
Also, could it possibly help to delete one or more of these files? My guess is that only the .pl2 file containts my stats?

I'll look forward to the new pilot code, if that means that I'll never have this trouble again, even if it means I'll have to give up on this pilot. :)

You should already have given up on your pilot, though. You can't carry the same pilot across mods without risking corruption!

I know, I know - that's what they say. I guess it's true - but it's just weird, because I know I've used this exact pilot across more than one mod.
Hm. Is there a way to edit pilot files, then? So that I could manually transfer my kills and stats, etc.?

EDIT:
Also, you point out that it seems like it's trying to load ST:R, even when I have no mod loaded. What's going on here? Can I prevent this?

Umm. Several things.

1) "Commander Skafsgaard" is too long a name, you need to shorten it
2) Your pilot file is corrupted, there is no way to recover it, so delete it and start a new one
3) No, there is no way to transfer statistics
4) The game will try to load the last campaign played, and complain if it can't be found. That's perfectly normal.

Well, I'll be damned!
Looks like my pilot name was too long!
After renaming it to something shorter, I can start the FS2 campaign. Looks like it wasn't corrupted after all. :)
