Performance and visuals on i945/GMA950?
(first time posting in years)

How well does FSO work on somewhat recent Intel graphics?

I'm getting incomplete models, clipping, and nebulae bugging out.

Post a debug log, please! That will allow us to tell if you have any problems in your installation.

We have had Intel users play even the most graphics-intensive campaigns, but their experiences (especially in stuff like War in Heaven) haven't always been great.

Intel GPU + Linux drivers = no fun at all.

The drivers aren't as bad as you think.

Might not match Windows performance, but the added features like GEM, KMS, and UXA more than make up for it.

Have they gotten around to adding texture compression yet?

No clue. I'll ask Bryce.

Unable to find extension "GL_EXT_texture_compression_s3tc".
That's a no then. Please install driconf and switch this on manually. In addition, please try the -novbo switch. You should also consider getting the minimal mediavps package.

Forcing texture compression and/or the novbo flag didn't help get rid of the artifacts.

Got a link to the minimal package?

Look for the mediavps 3.6.12 release thread. Get mv_root, mv_assets, mv_effects and mv_music.

And if that flag didn't help, there isn't much we can do. Intel GPUs in general and Intel GPU drivers for Linux in particular just suck too hard.
