Best Colossus firing position
I want to find out at which position the Colossus can bring in the most damage to a capital ship. Forward? Backward? Above the enemy ship? Below?

And praise to anyone who can post a picture of it bringing its max firepower.

Thanks.
With the rapid increase of FS fan-made campaigns, we're giving the GTVA a harder time with more violence and genocide.

How about you put Colossus in a new mission and some hostiles, find out yourself.

Re: Best Colossus firing position
I would be inclined to say when its broadside is facing the enemy (when it destroys the Sath in the retail campaign is a good example), but that's just off the top of my head. Like Fury said, a good idea would be to just try a few possibilities in FRED.

[16:58] <battuta> it was long, we wanted to release something
[16:58] <battuta> it felt good to have a target to hit
[17:00] <RangerKarl> not sure if talking about strike mission, or jerking off
[17:00] <CommanderDJ> WUT
[17:00] <CommanderDJ> hahahahaha
[17:00] <battuta> hahahaha
[17:00] <RangerKarl> same thing really, if you think about it

best position for a colossus is in the hands of a good batter

Re: Best Colossus firing position
With the Colossus bringing broadside beams to bear is the most obvious. The placement of enemy beams and how well their fighters work to defang the Colossus is also a relevant factor though, perhaps moreso than the angle at which the Colossus itself is at.

It differs from target to target.

Re: Best Colossus firing position
Broadside and above seems best. You'll lose the BGreen on the lower pylon, and possibly the TerSlash on the side of the head, but gain the two BGreens mounted flat on the topside.

This. Perpendicular to the target ship. If the target is long enough, you'll get both broadsides instead of just one.

Kind of reminds me of the old age of sail naval tactic of, "Crossing the T", only this time in 3D with the Colossus jumping in that very position.
