Modelling a Tiger in 3ds max
Hi folks, i am trying to model a tiger, well a half organic/mechanical tiger for a project at uni and i am really really struggling to model the head, which is that of a normal bengal tiger. I have tried plane modelling it and for the life of me i can't get it to look right even with reference photos and for some reason my tutor won't give me any help, he just doesn't answer my emails as i am doing this from home. So does anyone here have tips or links to tutorials? oh yes i am using 3ds max 2011 student edition.

Cheers muchly

Re: Modelling a Tiger in 3ds max
my tip is that do not do it like this

Umm... I'm not that familiar with 3DMax, but have you tried modeling only half of the head and then mirroring it (symmetrical head should not be that bad to look at).
It's just an idea, not sure if it's a valid one at all though. In C4D I'd propably start with a cube and then do a rough model of it and then round it up with Hupernurbs.
It's been a while since the last time I've modelled anything organic... and the last time was a pig carcass and a huge piece of cow meat.
Habeeb it...

Hmmm... Another rule to consider. Often if I can't draw it, I won't quite be able to model it. Thus, take a sheet of paper, and sketck a basic tiger head. When you do, draw a wireframe of the tiger's head - make sure this wireframe consists only of quads or four-sided surfaces. Start simple and then ramp up the complexity until you've arrived at the proper form. I think that might be a good strategy for this project.
