If I did US law I could help look into things with more depth, I have access to legal databases and law school training. But I do Hong Kong (English) law I can't help as much. That said, I believe Darius is an Aussie so laws between Hong Kong and 'oz are for the most part the same, Hong Kong copyright laws just quote a bit stricter (partly because people pirate more) with no equivalent for fair use (ugh), just a very limited educating/criticism/news reporting defense.
Of course, even the legal position isn't everything because copyrights holders don't always care. If I was in-house counsel I'd have better things to do than go after some fan-projects, and there's also a business decision to let people spread the music arouund.
