...and that's where things get iffy. Different people go for different interfaces. I (and, as far as I can tell, most people) find the 3DS interface only slightly annoying- I find it outright convienient at times. The LightWave interface looks like it was designed by a team of epileptic retarded monkeys whose experience with programs was limited to Microsoft Excel to me. But some find it easier. I dunno.

I rather detest the LW interface. I'd rather, be named TS Modeller Of The Year, have my picture taken while holding TS and it be published around the world, than use LW.

So.. um... replace it? Its all scripting and toolkit GUI stuff. You can rebuild the whole thing to look like 3ds if you really wanted.
