ERANGE error while loading mission
Hello,

I've been a FS2 player for quite some time now. I initially installed the game using Turey's installer, and everything worked fine.

I recently tried to upgrade to the newest FS2 version and mediavps (both 3.6.12) (manually, cause the installer will only download 3.6.10) and have the following problem: I can create my player, hear everything etc., but when I try to start the first mission (FS2 classic 1st mission), the game stops with the following ERANGE error:

This is not the error which uk_john posted at http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=70972.0 since it is not caused by the file "multi-mission-pack.vp" (I don't have this file in my installation folder).

I'm using fs2_open_3_6_12d_INF_SSE2.exe and the MV_Maximum_3612 mediavps. Anyone know how to fix this? Regards, yoshi

EDIT: I've got to admit, I paused the download of the mediavps once for a while. Could it be that some of the files are corrupted? (But I'm not very keen on downloading the 500M once again :/

The answer is simple: your directory path is too large to fit in the buffer. Move your entire FreeSpace 2 folder to C:\Games\FreeSpace2.

I'm using fs2_open_3_6_12d_INF_SSE2.exe and the MV_Maximum_3612 mediavps. Anyone know how to fix this? Regards, yoshi

For playing, do you use the fs2_open_3_6_12r_INF_SSE2.exe ? The "d" version is used only for debugging purpose.
Never far away from HLP and from a computer with an installed FreeSpace.

Oh sh*t man, you were right about the directory. I just thought it would work, cause it did with 3.6.10. Thanks a lot for the immediate response.

As for the debug: Of course I used debug, coz release doesn't create a log.
