Kosh vs Charlie Stross
I remember reading one of this guy's previous posts a while back, struck me as something of a dip****.
"The reason for this is that the original Fortran got so convoluted and extensive (10's of millions of lines of code) that no-one can actually figure out how it works, there's a massive project going on to decode the original Fortran and write a more modern system, but until then, the UK communication network is actually relying heavily on 35 year old Fortran that nobody understands." - Flipside

Yes, he is a wanker who is so desperate to have his own personal sounding board that if anyone is able to successfully refute anything he says he will actually erase what you said. How dare anyone disagree with his faulty logic.

i never expected such venom towards someone who agrees with your own ideology in every respect

are you sure you're thinking of the right person

why does he need to be desperate for a personal sounding board when he's such a widely respected author? people buy his ideas en masse

Re: Kosh vs Charlie Stross
Try looking at post 540, it was originally a point by point critique of his initial post before he deleted almost all of it despite its total lack of personal attacks, bad language, or anything else to warrant such behavior.

Why does he need his own sounding board? Because more often then not famous people tend to surround themselves with sychophants for the sole purpose of ego stroking. Eventually they come to believe all the BS that gets shoveled their direction and refuse to face reality.

Re: Kosh vs Charlie Stross
looks like a perfectly sound deletion to me, he gives the reasons right there

i can't stand idiots who don't read threads myself

remind me never to get a blog when i get published

i suggest this for a good blog on human heuristic faults

Now that explains a lot.
"The reason for this is that the original Fortran got so convoluted and extensive (10's of millions of lines of code) that no-one can actually figure out how it works, there's a massive project going on to decode the original Fortran and write a more modern system, but until then, the UK communication network is actually relying heavily on 35 year old Fortran that nobody understands." - Flipside

if the poster (you? was it you?) dropped this enormous threadbomb in without bothering to take into account the fact that all his questions or points had already been answered or countered, he doesn't deserve the right to speak

Re: Kosh vs Charlie Stross
Reading 500+ posts takes hours, plus I didn't find any within the first 50 that bothered to succintly point out the numerous flaws in his arguments.

And I don't appreciate yet another personal attack from you. Nearly every discussion I've had with you has ended in you launching personal attacks against me. Enough, no one should have the right to name calling, not even a mod.

Re: Kosh vs Charlie Stross
i apologize if i go too far, but i don't think anything so far has qualified as a personal attack or as namecalling; i only used 'idiot' before i even had an inkling you were the responsible party. in fact the closest thing to a personal attack here has been my correct identification of you as the one who had his post deleted

but that was the answer i was looking for, i was wondering why something that seemed so minor had drawn so much ire. it's just an excuse to be upset over a social slight

(even in the past I'm fairly sure I've offered criticism of your tendency to buy into things as a religion; the fact that your religion is labeled 'secular atheist humanism' doesn't stop your handling of it from being religious. i don't think that qualifies as namecalling unless you consider 'religious' a slur. embracing the empirical and secular means a willingness to be self-examinatory and self-critical which is unfortunately often incompatible with forum debate; i'm not always very good at it)

As Battuta stated you didn't tell him that you had previous contact with the site beyond reading it once in the past. So you kinda walked into the idiot comment yourself.

You've mentioned my alleged religiousity exactly once. You claim that you do examine things empiracly but I really don't see any evidence for it.

I do not deny that, but if it wasn't for his history with personal attacks in general I wouldn't care.

your inability to connect the last sentence of my post and the only sentence you provided is startling

Re: Kosh vs Charlie Stross
Okay. Reading further in that thread on CS' blog where your post was deleted, it turns out that you actually posted there a second time complaining about being told to, in effect, read what you are replying to. Then you go off on a tangent about the semantics of the word "biosphere", which does nothing regarding your alleged point, and only makes you look bad.

CS has stated, several times, that his blog is not a forum, that his blog is his soapbox first and foremost, and that you have no expectation of free speech there. It's even in his moderation policy, which you violated.

So there.

Who the hell is Charlie Stross?

I know I really don't need to discuss in this thread, but I have a nasty tendency to develop a taste for raging flame wars and stuff :drevil:.
With the rapid increase of FS fan-made campaigns, we're giving the GTVA a harder time with more violence and genocide.
