Happy Birthday HLP  10 years aye... I'll drink to that on the weekend!

Where the in-game birthday cake w/ beams? C'mon, guys! ;)

I checked Google images but their search just becomes more erratic everyday . I'll go through my freespace files cache tomorz to try and dig it out... :D. From that list of the 30 oldest members Sandwich whatever happened to Fantomeye, Darkage and Snipes? I remember most of those guys from the early days... Time has moved too quickly! Damn it

No idea about Fantomeye or Darkage, but Snipes registered a new user account many moons ago: Taristin

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

Back on January 7, 2001... Kalfireth (or should I say Thunder, or should I say R128Thunder?) and I could never have imagined this. We just thought it would be a cool idea to start something new... talk about taking on a life of its own!

I still smile when I look at that logo. Now it really means something. Back then... I was just mucking around. :)

By the way, sorry for missing the actual birthday (and being real, real late). In my defense, I feel like I had a valid reason... let me introduce you to Nathan Daniel Woo, born December 7, 2010. :D

Congrats, Setekh! And yeah, were you just dropping in or will you be able to stay for a bit?
[22:29] <sigtau> Hello, #hard-light?  I'm trying to tell a girl she looks really good for someone who doesn't exercise.  How do I word that non-offensively?

Thanks, Goob. :) Unfortunately I can't stick around - just wanted to pop my head in and say hi, and briefly see how everyone's traveling. I mean, when a website turns 10, that's like a human being turning 100 right?

Haha Mike! Well, we figured two and a half years would be a nice gap to have between the kids. ;) Jury's out on whether we'll have a third yet (especially seeing as Nathan is just a couple of months old). Believe me, I miss being around these parts... but RL's keeping me way too busy. It's just the way it has to be. Hey, how's Jed doing these days?

Wow, 10 years, and Ive been here for half of it, periodically contributing nonsensical arguments and adoration for what has been done without any help from me.
Keep up the good work guys.

Congratulations Hard-Light on your 10th birthday!

I only recently joined the community, and I've got to say thanks for everyone being so welcoming. Also, thanks for playing FS2Open with me every weekend!

Hey, how's Jed doing these days?

He's been living in the US for almost a year now, working and freezing. :p
