Hey, everyone. I'm trying to get into making missions in FRED, but I absolutely abhor the camera controls. Is there a mouse option? Heck, just having a modifier speed up the camera instead of going into the menu every time would help!

My question is: Is there any way to change the camera controls for use with the mouse or other keys besides the numpad?

PS: It occurs to me that 3d mouse support would be kind of cool for FRED to have. Have we/can we do that?

I think the camera speed settings should be retained between sessions by default. Are yours not?

Yes, they are, but that's not the point.

The most helpful thing would be a way to change the key bindings for the camera, or better yet, be able to use the mouse.

This. The numpad can be extremely irritating at certain points Also, "set camera position to defult" would be helpful.

...?  The numpad FRED camera controls are almost exactly the same as the numpad flight controls, along with change altitude and 'strafe' left and right keys.  They just take a little getting used to.

Yeah but you're kinda screwed if you're using a laptop and you don't HAVE a numeric keypad.

Using the function keys is just a PITA.

What's even worse is Max, PCS2, tech lab, and FRED all using different controls to do the same thing.  It's enough to drive a converter to drink.

You can speed up the camera by pressing 1 through 8 on the top row (as opposed to the numpad), and speed up the rotation by Shift 1 through 7. Not perfect, maybe, but quicker than the menu.
