Recently I got my hands on copies of Echelon and Echelon: Wind Warriors (AKA "Storm" and "Storm: Soldiers of the Sky" respectively in Russian), a sci-fi flight simulation series. I decided to see if there were any mods or add-ons available and came across a fan group page on Mod DB, where I found some model files for download - I think these are from the second game but I'm not sure of that. Anyway, given that some of the craft featured in the series could possibly pass as spacecraft I thought that someone here may find them of interest; I should say that these games are somewhat old though.

They're saved in the .max file format . Besides aircraft, the game also contains lots of buildings, ground and marine units, even aerial aircraft carriers (going by what I've seen in the first game's manual), which may be of interest to those making atmospheric mods, but I'm not sure if the above link contains those.

There's a rumour that the series might be made open source at some point.

Intriguing...
Are those ripped straight from the game though?

I'm not certain of that, but it's something that I might look into doing anyway since I own both games. The licence says "proprietary" so they likely still belong to MADIA Entertainment (the developer). However, since it's coming up to a 10 year anniversary and a new update is planned in March, they may make the game engine and it's content available to use under an open source license agreement. As said, it's just a rumour for now.

I think I'll join that group and find out if it would be OK to use them.
