Author Topic: [Solved] Can't play FS2 open mod (Read 5048 times)

Hi,
I am trying to re-play some missions of fs 2 again in the mission simulator. Using the

FreeSpaceOpenInstaller with the mod Freespace II - 3.6.10 MediaVPs i get an error: "the current

canpaing is freespace 2 to current mod is mediavps."

After choosing my Fs 2 pilot the introduction screen is low res and the old fs style.

I have tried using the other mod Freespace Port Media VPs wtih the fs pilot i can play the

missions.

When i try to play the whole game again with a new pilot i also get an error.

I have done system recovery without succes.

Please run a debug link and post the log as explained in JeffVader's link. We can then solve the problem.

i still use the 3.6.10. build and the 5.5e launcher.

Yes, you should, and you should also post the log file from /FreeSpace2/data/fs2_open.log.

That is not the log file. Please go to FreeSpace2/data/fs2_open.log, post the contents of that file.

But first upgrade to 3.6.12 and see if the problem persists.

strange, i can't find the log file from /FreeSpace2/data/fs2_open.log
Searched everywere in the root dir.

Hmm. Have you run a debug build? You need to do that for a log to be generated.

Debug builds end in -d or -debug.

Get 3.6.12 first.

my steps are:
1. in the launcher > C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG.com\Freespace 2\fs2_open_3_6_10_debug.exe.
2. MOD > Freespace II - 3.6.10 MediaVPs
3. Apply.
4. Run.
After that i get a millisecond startscreen followed by a black screen and a ping sound.
Then the waring screen appears : option YES > After that a screen Freespace is not working

There is no /FreeSpace2/data/fs2_open.log

Run the whole thing again > option NO > the screen keeps appearing.

There is no /FreeSpace2/data/fs2_open.log

Don't no what i am doing wrong here. The game just worked fine 1 day ago. Did a sytem restore without result.
Am stuck now.

I have the 3.6.12 build now. The SSE 2 version because i have a corei7 cpu.
Do i now replace all the 3.6.10 files and .exe in the freespace root dir. with the new one or do i just add the new files
and leaving the old build in place?

Add the new one but make sure you select it in the launcher.

The log should be generated if the game engine boots up even a little, but if not, keep hitting "No" whenever you get a warning.

Since you're getting warnings, it is obvious that you have something wrong with your setup. If we could just get that log (you have succeeded in generating and posting one before), we could find out what the problem is.

added the 3.6.12 now.
now i cant even run the .exe

it goes to a black screen .

You were on Windows 7, yes? Please check C:\Users\<Your Username>\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\<Rest of the path to your FS2 directory>\data . The log may be there, if your FS2 installation is under \Program files\ or \Program files (x86)\ .

Something is clearly wrong with your install, and it should be easily fixable, if we could just get the log.

If the log continues to fail to turn up, a screenshot of your FS2 directory may help, but the log is preferable - look where JeffVader suggested and maybe do a search of your entire hard drive.

Running the 3.6.12 d i still get a black screen then nothing. Have to ctrl-alt-del then the waring appears on the dekstop.
After hitting no a blackscreen pops up and a ping sound.
Done it several times without any log flie in the root dir.

Is the log file in the directory JeffVader suggested?

Does it turn up when you search your entire hard drive for fs2_open?
