Yet another computer selection thread
I've done some research, and I can't find anything that fits quite, so I thought I'd ask to see if anybody has heard anything.

I would like to purchase a tablet PC. It must have pressure sensitivity for Photoshop work. It must have discreet graphics for gaming (I'd like to be able to play Starcraft II and FSO MVPs at reasonable detail settings). It must not be an HP or Dell.

Any clue who has one or can build one? Heard anything from CES that might help the situation?
Toshiba, Lenovo, and AVA Direct so far have nothing that fits.

P.S. I've been saving for a while, so price isn't too big of an obstacle. And if there's nothing available, I don't really have a problem with waiting.

if you can't find something with all that in one package, you could try one of those USB tablet pads.  i know they come with pressure sensitivity.  they don't have screens though (that i know about) if you need to draw directly on the image.

The hard part is the dedicated graphics... Panasonic makes the Toughbook line, but not w/ dedicated.

This was all I could find, tried Asus, HP, Gateway, Pany, and Dell.

HP TouchSmart tm2t with the Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-470UM (1.33GHz, 3MB L3Cache) +512MB ATI Mobility Radeon(TM) HD 5450 [HDMI, VGA]

You say you don't want an HP... but seriously you're asking for a lot in a small package. There's not
a great deal to choose from. The market is transitioning from "tablet laptops" to actual "slate tablets."

Anyway, it should come close to what you want, not sure about the pressure sensitive screen, it has multitouch at least.
You may be better off buying a decent laptop, then getting a separate wacom tablet if you really "want it all" - tablets are not a big market and will never see the same treatment as mainstream size/gaming laptops.

Stupid market trends. Yeah, I realized it would be hard, but I thought that I just wasn't looking in the right places. And I figured that somewhere, somebody would be able to build a laptop from the ground up, but that doesn't seem likely.
Thanks for finding that HP, I saw that one as well, but decided against it as they have quality issues in my experience.

Is it so wrong for me to have a dream of playing RTS with a touchscreen? I want this:

Go buy ya a microsoft surface or roll your own (is possible), and then do as you wish.
I believe it's entirely possible to do that, with some small restrictions, but you'll have to build it yourself
and use several programs at once to emulate the effect.

I would note the guy in the trailer wasn't using a tablet PC, he was using a desk mounted display.

Re: Yet another computer selection thread
OK, since apparently nobody can build something this awesome yet, I have a new plan:
Since these little tablet things are really taking off right now, I could get one that runs Windows and is a Wacom, and put Photoshop on there (plus use it for super-portability) and then just get a regular laptop for gaming and heavy lifting. Since the tablet should be pretty small, relatively, it shouldn't add much to the weight if I just wanted to pack both components together.
And I'm going to see if I can at least get a custom paint job on the back. It's gotta be "Don't Panic" in big yellow letters :)

Maybe in 5 years I'll be able to play Starcraft 3 on a tablet. Actually... even the little one I get this year might be able to run Omnitech...
