So immediately after I get the little message saying "i've seen them before" or whatever, they turn around and start attacking me and I fail the mission. At that point I am able to target them, tamerere command says "damn i was afraid of that" i talk about the crystal structure, my jump drives recharge, i jump out and get the debrief about the shivans coming and am not allowed to pass. Have tried the mission a bunch of times, creeping up on them as slowly as possible, but every time this happens.

Some help would be appreciated. First time i've played with 3.6.12 and the new AoA, they rock!

So as far as I can tell, the first message isn't triggered until you can target them right? And I am not able to target them unless I get in w/i 1500 it seems, and at that point they automatically start attacking me and the "damn thats what we were worried about" message plays. I tailed them outside of that range for 10 minutes and nothing happened. I also tried staying ridiculously far away and sped the game up so that 60 min passed and nothing happened. More ideas?

Huh. Sounds like something funny's going on. Let me look at the mission file.

I know of no reason you would have to get that close to target them. Is your radar range capped? Hit the 'cycle radar range' key until it shows a little infinity loop.

They'll attack if you get within 1350 meters.

I think it might be more interesting fighting rogue Cyrvans or something than just being in the Cyrvan war. Wait, which board is this again?
