The choice of computer games are huge. Every day new games come out to tempt us into a good few days or weeks  of solid playing. However out of every glut of game hoppers who buy, a few get hooked. They become permanently emotionaly bonded to whatever game it is, and can never fully move on. It is possible to be multiply bonded to different games but its not quiet the same in that case.

The Freespace community has a particularly  dedicated group of such Hardcore gamer freaks, "FreeSpace Freaks".

The Freespace freak is someone who is clinicaly obsessed with Freespace. Despite newer better games coming along, he/she finds they seem "Too commercial" or have "No modability" etc.

Freespace freaks occasionaly foray into other games in the Sci-Fi/Space genre, like IWAR2 or X-Wing Alliance etc. However they always come back to Freespace...

HOW TO SPOT ONE ===> ;)
Freespace Freaks are suprisingly easy to spot, and there are several key factors to correctly identify one.

1. A Freespace Freak (or FSF), will often mack comments about models or renders like "Thats based on an Arcadia isnt it" or "Its not Freespacey enough"

2. The FSF will often be the project leader of a campaign. A campaign thats been going on for months put nothings happening.

3. He/She will add every possible member of the FS community to his ICQ/AOL or other instant messenger.

4. Many FSF will loiter in as many FreeSpace related communities as possible.

5. Suprisingly many FSF rarely ACTUALY play Freespace, most of there time is spent making *Things* for it. However they usually have a backedup version of every Campaign, MOD etc downloaded.

The Award:yes:

Anyone who is noticed as a FSF by 5 peeps or more will recive the prestigious FreeSpace Freak - Electronic Gif Medal, donated by yours truly :P which they can print out and safty pin to there work shirt. (Its real cool, double your chances with the ladyz)
And best of all its FREE. Though 0.01 Cents to cover my conection would be nice.

I shall Pin the medal up here sometime soon.

Good description mate

I´m so obsessed I hardly manage to do other things like eating (well i do eat when the game is loading or when i´m out) or doing my loundry, not to mention that I check all those BB related to FS2 more then one time during the day (whitch means during workinghoures as well). My skin allready looks like a ghost and red burning eys are common (when that might be a different reason  ). Lately I´m taking a look at the model thingy and so i dont play as much as I used to. Don´t know if that´s an improvement though.
“Who are you?” said the Caterpillar.

This was not an encouraging opening for a conversation. Alice replied, rather shyly, “I—I hardly know, sir, just at present— at least I know who I was when I got up this morning, but I think I must have been changed several times since then.”

LOL I share some of those characteristics as well. :p I really like a couple of other games as well, but FS2 in the end beats them all.

Occasionally. I certainly think new ships should fit in with the general Freespace design, but I'm not opposed to anything different, either.

Er... I do have a campaign where nothing's happening, but that's just because it's finished and released. :ha:

3. He/She will add every possible member of the FS community to his ICQ/AOL or other instant messenger..

True. I don't know why, since I never actually talk to anyone outside my development team, but...

HLP, VWBB, and F2S so far.

5. Suprisingly many FSF rarely ACTUALLY play Freespace, most of there time is spent making *Things* for it. However they usually have a backed-up version of every Campaign, MOD etc downloaded.

I don't play Freespace that often simply because missions get exhausted. I like seeing progress on something new. However, I do make simple little missions to test out my newest creation, from time to time.

So? Do I qualify?:no::confused::yes:

1) Ahem, I would never say those things
2) I um....damn (oh so many :D)
3) Thats a misnomer - everyone tries to add themselves to my list, get that right :D
4) Oh um...yes :)
5) How did you know? :)  No FSF is truly a FSF if they don't have at least three different data trees for different mods :D

I meet exactly one of those criteria. In that every project I head mysteriosly dies, after showing extremely good initial progress.

I don't play FreeSpace, none of you are on any email list, I don't complain when something isn't FreeSpacey, and I used to play many kinds of games, and now play next to none at all.

After several months of work, mine will soon be complete. ;) I actually play FS2 quite a bit though in addition to modifying it. ;)

[edit] Looks like I hit 2000 posts by the way; must have been from all that arguing in the HL forum. :p

make one...

Another FSF criteria.

6.  Where as most people coment on how much a cloud in the sky would look like a horse, for example, you comment on how much it looks like a lucifer class destroyer...

A lot of clouds look like lucifers, dunno why.  Suppose its just more of a cloudy shape than most FS ships.
