On Age Ratings for Games

Quote
The advertisement for Ubisoft's "sexy Wii minigame compilation" raised a few eyebrows when it first bubbled to the surface in February but things didn't really go off the rails until a few days later, when PEGI gave the game a 12+ rating. Despite Ubi's insistence that the game was hot and naughty stuff, PEGI said it wasn't really all that daring at all, but that wasn't enough to satisfy vocal parents and politicians who worried that the game would encourage kids to engage in underage sex.
And the trailer itself: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=liy-hy5RPYw

Can someone tell me what the hell went wrong? I don't even know how to formulate an opinion on this. O_o

Re: On Age Ratings for Games
It was Ubisoft doing themselves with a candlestick with a daft ad campaign. The actual game itself from first-views seems to be no more 'risky' than a Carry-On movie...

Worst part is, they've self-censored themselves in the UK and the US, the two countries whose politicians do the most talking about 'Freedom of Speech' and yet whine loudest when something doesn't match their own personal opinion of what is good for the public.

There was the stripper pole in the actual game itself. The ad was dumb and ridiculous, though.

What in the Hell is wrong with these morons?  Have they forgotten that The Supreme Court is reviewing video game restriction laws!?  First EA with that stupid "your mom" campaign, and now this ****.

Uh, this is PEGI, the European rating guys. I don't think they much care what the American Supreme Court has to say on the subject.

Anyway, I'm a little confused. Parents are angry because the game got a low rating? But the rating people say there isn't anything in there to warrant a higher rating? And Ubisoft's clouding the waters by claiming the opposite? What are people actually upset about?

(Also, link in the first post is not correct. Here's the actual article, for those just joining us.)

They have been trying to ban, censor, or restrict video games since Mortal Kombat and have tried it in Congress dozens of times, every single time nothing happens, and it will stay that way.

This isn't someone trying to ban a game, this is... IDK... stupidity? And on multiple fronts, too.
