So in a few thousand years we can throw you in a puddle and be free to follow the Golden Path?  Free to scatter throughout the irc channels, never again to face complete domination?

On that note, starslayer, I'm afraid you're going to be spending a lot of time growing in axolotl tanks

Well I'm already a student of the sword and considering my lagging behind in all the technological frills I guess I already have one foot in the man out of time puddle...

Re: #hard-light: do we nuke it from orbit?
Not that I spend hardly much time there... but to offer my experience to the pool of thought:

If you remove the room, you're probably going to do more damage to HLP by removing the Gen Disc' element.
People will either move somewhere else to continue on like they were, or simply not come around at all. It's been my experience
it's about a 70/30 split in favor of not coming around, usually due to feelings of being rejected by community X or some such. Very talkative
people tend to be more easily affected by things of that nature.

#freespace serves it's purpose of being for FS discussion as it should. #hard-light to me is dead, it serves no point in what I'm here for.

However that's not the case for everyone. Part of a community or forum is the social element. If you restrict things too much, you'll choke
yourself to death. Same way with being the smartest in the room, if you can answer any question that comes up, there's never any "out of the box"
thinking or random discussion. It's sterile and ultimately fails.

So... my suggestion is take care of the people that are causing the problem and/or establish rules to govern the zone.
If there are rules that exist - if they have been broken, then the choice is clear. If they are ineffective, then they simply need revising.

Hrmph. I don't see why this needs to be discussed at all. If chief or other ops don't have the balls to carry out moderating of the channel, let me. I don't have any problems with booting iamzack and any other disruptive people out, permanently.

I don't really like the #freespace channel that much. I'd much rather restore #hard-light and moderate it properly, then can #freespace.

I don't know why people think removing the room is somehow in order, that's not on the table.

I personally am not all that bothered by iamzack, even if that might be due to her XX points. Meh. There are far more obnoxious people on #hard-light than zack that I tend to avoid. Remember, there's always the ignore tool...

In any sense, HLP is a community. #hard-light is the source of that community interaction beyond the forums here. If you've deemed that such a community must be strictly enforced to adhere to specific subject matters, so be it. But, at the same time, you will inevitably loose something for better or worse when you do so.

I think it's worth having some idea what the topic is actually about before you weigh in. Just keep that in mind.

ED: what I mean is you're talking like the Gestapo is about to roll in and enforce a curfew, 'strictly enforced to adhere', jesus christ. It's more of a specific trouble case.

its just a matter of make rules, enforce rules, problem solved. those who cannot follow some basic rules for behavior really have no place in channel or board. there is acceptable socializing and there is trolling, and moderators should be able to tell the difference.

Re: #hard-light: do we nuke it from orbit?
Alright, timeout! iamzack is already banned, my only hope is that it will remain permanent and will not be removed like what usually happens to most bans.

HLP is not a democracy. I do not see any reason why #hard-light should be. Hence this should not even be up to discussion, it should have been decided and acted upon by channel operators. Now, is there a problem of authority within channel operators? A problem that prevented this act being carried out by the channel operators?

If no, then why the heck was this topic posted in the first place? If yes, then I believe the channel is lacking some very basic ground rules in this regard. Is it any wonder iamzack was allowed to remain on the channel with disruptive behavior if there is a problem with channel operators authority?

Stop being such a bunch of wussies.

Huh.

Um.

I remember a thread being posted relating to posts like that...

Spoon - I stand in awe by your flawless fredding. Truely, never before have I witnessed such magnificant display of beamz.
Axem -  I don't know what I'll do with my life now. Maybe I'll become a Nun, or take up Macrame. But where ever I go... I will remember you!
Axem - Sorry to post again when I said I was leaving for good, but something was nagging me. I don't want to say it in a way that shames the campaign but I think we can all agree it is actually.. incomplete. It is missing... Voice Acting.
Quanto - I for one would love to lend my beautiful singing voice into this wholesome project.
Nuclear1 - I want a duet.
AndrewofDoom - Make it a trio!

Are you seriously taking THAT as an insult? :wtf: It was a strong encouragement to grow some balls. People without balls cannot operate as any sort of authoritative figure.

There's a difference between an insult and telling people to do their jobs.

i dont think i really need to blame the ops. if anything i kinda think we need more channel ops. at any given time i see at most 2 ops, and we cant expect them to be glued to the channel all day looking for trolls.

Which has already been carried out in the "whatever we feel like" manner by banning iamzack, we being me however. I didn't create #hard-light for it to become an emotional ****dump for the likes of iamzack.

I better close this topic and instead discuss the matter personally with chief (the current channel owner) at later time.
