Can FS2 be run on a home network server
Hi all,

I have a Dell 2950 with windows 2008 R2 and Wampserver installed that I have installed several rpg's on for use on a local home network. Can FS2 be installed on it and played from one of several computers in my home on the network?

Welll..... If you mean that the data resides on the network server, and you access the code through a network drive, and that it is then executed locally, then yes, it should work. However, I can't say for sure, that's a usage scenario we don't have experience with.

Technically it should work. It's about the same concept as running a copy of FSO from an usb stick : the game isn't installed directly/locally on your computer, but you can access and run it from an external drive. I know for having tested myself that running FSO from an usb key works, although you might need to paste the openal32.dll manually in the game folder.

However if what you meant was using the network to play FSO on LAN, that is possible too. You can either have any of the machines in your network host, or set up a dedicated server on your network server.
People are stupid, therefore anything popular is at best suspicious.

Re: Can FS2 be run on a home network server
Yes , sorry I wasnt too clear. windows 2008 R2 is a dedicated server. I also installed Wampserver which includes Apache, MySQL and PHP. Is there a special installation setup (usually thru PHP) for the program if I run it off Wampserver? Thx.

Re: Can FS2 be run on a home network server
Uhhh. No.

FS2 is not a program that can be run on a server (Except when in standalone server mode, which is only useful for multiplayer). And even the standalone server requires a) all FS2 game data, and b) a GUI to run.
