In the past I was always wondering why none of the famous community projects like MediaVPS, FSPort, Blue Planet and such aren't offering any form of an installers. Well, of course there is the FSO installer, which is sadly outdated. Installers would make it possible for people new to the FreeSpace universe (such as customers of GOG.com who have recently discovered FS) to experience the enhancements of FS and tons of new content as easy as possible. These installers could be promoted alongside with the regular file downloads at the corresponding project websited and thread here on HL.

Well, of course there are some questions to be answered:
1. What do you think about this idea in general?

As I'm bringing this idea up I would also be happy to write/create and maintain these the installers in the future. So:

2. Would I be allowed to create and provide & promote these installers (proper credits included of course - anyway, I still have to check all the readmes & threads of the projects I want to provide installers for on this matter)?

I think the lack of installer is mainly due to the lack of people ready to write em. We have awesomely-written tutorials covering every step of making FS and mods work, but we still have to deal with the small proportion of those too dumb to read tutos.

If you're ready to write installers for mods here, I'm pretty sure everyone would love that. By all means, go ahead !

Also also, a brand-new awesome shiny installer is in the works at the moment.

Indeed it is, and it will have the ability to install from both the internet and (eventually) offline.  So the capability that you're looking for will be available in the near future.
