Well, I have both lightsaber and the Force. :p

No really, good guys do indeed win too often, and it shouldn't be so. At least when they win without losses.

Meh. TMP Eurasian marching beats sound about as good in FS, so there.:p

Can't say that about your "atmospheric" music files.

oh, another good one is Aliens vs. Predator. Really fits in with the mood. can't say about AVP2 though, haven't played it.

I find some decent techno tracks coupled with classical make the best music for games (i despise the Nu metal "revolution").

Take for instance FS2, any other music wouldnt make you feel pumped BUT fit the atmosphere at the same time.

Take System Shock 2's Command A theme, a banging peace of D&B really fires you up.

As for newer games, i felt Halo had a V. good soundtrack (dig those gregorian monks baby)

OK since we are talking about music, where can I find some good ambiental music taht would fit well in Freespace 2. Which authors are good? Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

http://www.eve-online.com/ - Download some of the Ambient Tracks from this game.  Very ambient, each is about 4-6 minutes in length.

System Shock 2. It should be a damned soundtrack CD. I'd buy it. No other game comes close to the atmospheric intensity of Shock2's stuff.

For those who haven't listened, search out 'Bart Klepka' and listen to his remixes.

Oh yeah, Starcraft. Good music.

And flame me, but I liked the soundtrack of Call to Power 2. I thought it just sounded kinda cool. Pretty natural sounding stuff, but cool nonetheless.

Mal: This is the captain. We have a little problem with our entry sequence, so we may experience some slight turbulence and then... explode.

American McGee's
Alice

has the best music of any game I've heard. It's childish, happy, Victorian music, xylophones, harpsichords and such, but darkly twisted with a female chorus and bass strings. It was done by Chriss Vrenna of Nine Inch Nails... mmm, I love it. There's one track that literally made me cry when I heard it.

I can't believe no one has mentioned Metal Gear Solid 2!  Now THAT was some excellent music.  Right on par with John Williams.

Yeah, MGS2 had good music in it. But what do you expect from someone who's co-written music from THE ROCK? What I'm waiting for is something Zimmerish (Hans Zimmer) in games! Like when I play Cossacks, I turn off the ingame music and pop in the Gladiator soundtrack! I just love the battle music when you have thousands of troops just marching into each other, or hundreds of ships in a vast sea battle! Aaah...

Re: Coolest music in games
Total Annihilation music simply rules! Perhaps I should exctact one track from the CD and upload it, it's simply too great to miss.

MOHAA had good music too.

Here is a link to the entire Total Annihilation Album.  You can download all the tracks here:
