Go read a book, admiral.
Was digging around the .vp files, and found this. I'm sure most of you have read it, but not all of you have heard it. The historic..

The FS1 rear admiral through admiral debriefings were much funnier. They accused you of cheating.

i never made admiral through all the reinstalls i ended up doing back when i played religiously (playing on very easy didn't help either).  was this the actual line out of the game, or was it thrown in with the outtakes somewhere?

All the admiral "debriefs" say exactly the same thing but with different voices, and yes, it really does say "now go read a book"... ;) I forgot whether the Vasudan ones say it as well...I think they did... XD

Re: Go read a book, admiral.
The funny thing is that you can get to Admiral completely legitimately by playing the main FS1 campaign about eight times.

Re: Go read a book, admiral.
On insane and bombing a lot!
8 times..? really that low?
I can easily do commander in 1, not sure about captain..

FS1's campaign gives you forced promotions.

While going through the actual audio for the FS1 promotions I discovered this gem:

Code: [Select]
$Name: Ensign
$Points: 0
$Bitmap: medal12.pcx
$Promotion Voice Base: rank_0.wav
$Promotion Text:

Dang, you're still an Ensign!  You must have gotten busted!

Heh, that reminds me of how the original Descent would flash "CHEATER!" in place of your score every time you killed a bot while using cheat codes. :D

i'm guessing you have to get the lucifer kill all 8 times.  among other things.

You can't kill the Lucifer....

I thought you could: disable the engines and then just hammer on it forever with lasers until it dies. Never tried it myself.

Re: Go read a book, admiral.
I thought the mission ended on a timer if you failed, I didn't realise the luci jumped oO
Then again I've played about 10 different remakes of that mission so ...yea...

I guess it's possible..

It does happen, I've seen it do that in retail FS1.

Uhm, what? Where?

In Black Omega (sm3-06):

Code: [Select]
$Formula: ( when
   ( is-destroyed-delay 0 "Anvil" )
   ( send-message
      "<any wingman>"
      "normal"
      "Anvil dead"
   )
   ( grant-promotion )
)
+Name: Anvil dead
+Repeat Count: 1
+Interval: 1
+Objective: Destroy the Anvil

Apparently in Training 3 as well, but I don't know if promotions work in training missions.
