Differences and Commonalities between FotG and the X-Wing Games
Hi everyone,
Since FotG isn't going to be an X-Wing clone, I'm curious about that exactly is different and what both have in common. So, if it isn't a Secret, what are the exact differences and what do both have in common?

Thanks in Advance. :)

In common: SW universe, stuff like weapon linking and S-foils.
Differences: Gameplay (much closer to canon), speeds, HUD, etc.
FoTG is a completely different game than X-Wing.
Once upon a time, there was the Imperial Alliance project, which would have been an "X-W game on FS engine", but it died a long time ago.

Well, there was a more-or-less playable version at some point... The project died mostly because there weren't enough people to work on the assets - models, textures, etc. Some people still have all or most of the files, it's just that there's nobody to work on them :P

The Multiplayer Release? I still have that one.

That was the one that got a public release, though I remember one of the devs saying that they had a far better version playable not long after the Multiplayer Release, but they waited for some more models, which never came. Shame though - although based on some early incarnation of the FSO, it still had a lot of potential, especially that it was custom-tailored for our club :P

Really?
Do you know where to find any of them?
If they could be convinced to release an assets dump and their code patches, I'm sure that community would benefit from these.

I have the IA codebase, the public IA release, and I believe I have the private multi demo or whatever it was floating around my hard drives somewhere too.  But aside from nostalgia, they're not good for much at this point, especially the code.  We've implemented most of what we'd ever need from that already one way or another.
