Escaping the Big Rip/Big Crunch
The only way I can think of is Pocket Universes.
http://orbitalvector.com/Megastructures/Pocket%20Universes/POCKET%20UNIVERSES.htm

If someone else can think of a way, I'd be glad to hear it. Before I read about pocket universes I thought it would be impossible.

Re: Escaping the Big Rip/Big Crunch
I can't think of any thing else, but other dimensions and Parallel universes. But you already know that this won't happen in hundred billion years.
A small voice in my head tells me they are have followed us here in the Milky Way. They follow us until we are dead at their feet. We are nomands of the stars, no longer the race that was loved by the Great Elders. My name is Kyral and this is my story of survival.

There is no sanctuary for us, in this Universe. We will fight the Terror for one last time on this Shining World. May the Transcendent judge us kindly in the Life Stream.

Re: Escaping the Big Rip/Big Crunch
It depends on how prolific the human race is.

If we are a VERY prolific race then it doesn't really matter how many civil wars we have, there will still be plenty more humans in the galaxy!  :P

Also, I'm sure the shivans could find another way. And 4Chan.

4Chan could DEFINITELY find another way. :nervous:

I believe the human race will last that long, as long we don't come across a dangerous alien species like the Nightmare Creations.   ;7

Why does this remind me of that NASA guy who said that we'd... like... be killed off by an alien race because we're apparently torturing our planet so badly?
21:20:19   SpardaSon21: "hey baby, want to get a good look at my AC/20?

Some people are like Slinkies.  They aren't really good or even useful for anything but they always manage to put a little smile on your face when you give them enough of a push down the stairs.

You didn't pay much attention when evolution was taught in your school, did you?

A) Assuming the event will occur (there are other theories), who said we'll be capable of doing anything. What if time will just go backwards like in red dwarf? :P On aserious note, with the way humans are going (most importantly quitting on nuclear power and coal and oil running out) we'll wipe ourselves out in a resource war in 200 years (WTF Germany? And somebody finally convince Austria that our damn Temelin nuclear powerplant is OK) I seriously believe this because greed is one of the fundamental qualities of Man. Better hope we get that fusion plant to work.

We should have went forward with O'Neill's plan during the 70s.

Re: Escaping the Big Rip/Big Crunch
Well, Mp-Ryan, I touched Evolution subject at my school very briefly which was like seventh grade. That's Smethport Jr-Sr. High for ya. I think we'll change our resource ways in the far future. The atmosphere's change in chemical make-up will force us to reconsider our ways. Study Venus and put that on our Earth . Ugly.

PS. Keep on the subject! I'm sorry to derail!  ;)

Don't condescend too hard.  Quite a few school boards and state legislatures in the United States do everything they can to block the teaching of evolution in public schools.  While these attempts are often struck down in court, in the time it takes to try the case, several classes may already have graduated without having ever heard the word "evolution" uttered by a teacher.

Forget escaping the big rip/big crunch, how can we escape regressive teaching standards by religious conservatives?

Ban religious involvement in state school teaching methods?
Back on topic, if its a 'big rip' get all the old women to patch it with 'quantum cotton thread', if it's a crush...Try to find a way to travel into the realm beyond "Normal" space, that which is is either outside or behind the infulence of said crush.

P.S. Is it just me or does the 'quantum cotton thread' sound like something from KoL?
If you hit it and it bleeds, you can kill it. If you hit it and it doesn't bleed...You are obviously not hitting hard enough.

Move to Canada.  :P

OK you unlucky few that had to suffer fundamentalist Christian interference in education, the point I was condescending about is the "human race" won't be around in a couple million years, nevermind a hundred billion.  We're biological organisms - we evolve - and our behaviour specifically is evolving faster than ever.

Re: Escaping the Big Rip/Big Crunch
I believe I've said before that before you can define the term 'survive', you have to define the term 'humanity'. They can both have vastly different meanings, as MPRyan points out, which are constantly changing.

Oddly enough, humanity stands the most chance with the third, and I believe, most likely option, i.e. Heat Death, because whilst the other two options are irresistable events, Heat Death is just a general smoothing over of energy. You need a race that is really good at manipulating its environment to shake things up, and that's where races like 'Humanity' come into play.

Re: Escaping the Big Rip/Big Crunch
Isn't reversing Heat Death a violation of the laws of thermodynamics? If it is so, reverting that apocalypse scenario should be as unlikely as dealing with other possibilities (unless you're the AC, or if I'm mistaken, what is not improbable).

Unless you worship the Nord Gods. The story goes in the future the mighty Ragnrarok will happen and everything will be turn into ice. So, it would like Dante's world.
