I know this is going to be met with "tl;dr" but please read it anyway.

What I really want is a sandbox style cyberpunk game. Imagine a cross between Grand Theft Auto and either The Fifth Element or Blade Runner. Which I need to watch, because I have not seen it yet. Or Snatcher. Kega won't save Sega CD for me for some strange reason. I have done some research and I found out there is a Star Wars mod for GTA (PC). But Star Wars is more sci-fi than cyberpunk. And sci-fi =/= cyberpunk.

I can think of only one attempt at such a game. Jak II. But that was more cartoony than cyberpunk. Which isn't a bad thing, considering what the series was built on.

Anyway, here's what I want in my conceptual game that I'm going to simply call "Cyberpunk City" for now.
  • A cyberpunk-themed Grand Theft Auto game
  • skyscrapers everywhere
  • flying cars
  • multiple vertical "levels" of traffic (unlike Jak II)
  • No traffic on ground level (not unlike Jak II)
  • Many people are enhanced with cybernetics
  • Protagonist has a cyberdeck
  • Throw in some mutants in a certain part of the city for good measure.
  • Throw in some androids as common pedestrians
  • Aw, what the hell? Let's toss in some terminators and snatchers while we're at it.
  • Only music genres available on the radio are hose, techno, trance, club, electro, electronica, eurodance, and eurobeat.
  • Daft Punk makes a cameo.
  • No GTA game would be complete without strip clubs.
  • Add a cathouse. With Gynoids.
  • Unlike in Crackdown (which I have yet to play), you do not have superpowers.
  • The best weapon in the game is the lightsaber (spelled "lightsabre" for legal reasons, or maybe named "energy saber" or "laser sword"). It can kill any biological creature with one slice. It never runs out of energy. Well-timed swings can deflect bullets and laser bursts as well as parry the swing of another lightsaber. However, it is only available late in the game and it costs one billion dollars.
  • A completely new psychedelic drug. Much more potent than LSD. Note that I have never tried any drugs and I intend to keep it that way.
  • Another great weapon in the game is the blaster. It fires laser bursts. Has a self-recharging a battery or maybe a fuel cell, so "ammo" is essentially unlimited. Costs one million dollars.
  • Maybe we could "borrow" lights, mediums, and heavies from Dystopia and use them as the "SWAT team."
  • Unlike in GTA, when you die, you lose all your weapons.
  • Hoverboards.

Weapons Under Consideration
Pistols: Blaster, something similar to PDZ's MAGSSEC pistol, a silenced pistol
Shotguns: Don't know yet
Assault: Some kind of short-range gun that sprays out tiny balls that explode. (don't know how this would work, but who cares? It's a game with flying cars! We checked reality at the door.) EDIT: On second thought, I realized that this would make it a lot like FS2's flak guns, albeit on a much smaller scale.
Sniper: Particle sniper rifle like PDZ's Shockwave
Heavy: Chaingun, Gauss gun, Jak 3-like grenade launcher
Thrown: Incendiary/Thermite Grenades, EMP Grenades, Nuclear Football Grenade (limit 1), Drone (assist) (limit 1), some kind of super shrapnel grenade.
Melee: Taser, taser-knife, nightstick, shockstick (electrified nightstick/taser+nightstick), vibroblade, lightsaber

Some potential problems:

I realized some of you might would ask rhetorical questions such as, "if this is such a good idea, why hasn't it been made yet?" The answer is probably because... well, I guess cyberpunk isn't a super popular genre, so it might not be very profitable.

From a coding point of view, making flying cars that are restricted to "hover zones" rather than having full flight like an aircraft wouldn't be difficult. However, getting the AI to drive and utilize those hover zones in a realistic manner would be nothing short of a nightmare. Note that this is coming from someone who knows zilch about coding.

Haven't come up with anything else yet. I just kind of thought this might be a good idea and I decided I was going to post it. I'd like to hear feedback from you all. Maybe some suggestions. Things to add, things to take out. Whether this would be cool or not, ect.

I know many of my posts/topics have been met with copious amounts of criticism. I am slowly becoming aware of the reasons many of you look upon me with disapproval. I do not believe this is a stupid topic. I am not trying to start a war. I am not trying to troll. I simply came up with this, thought it was a good idea, and wanted to get it out there.

I don't know. I never actually watched all of the Star Wars movies. I need to get around to doing that.

cyberpunk ∈ scifi, just for clarification

also if you have to append "Note that this is coming from someone who knows zilch about coding" to something chances are you are safe leaving it out.

other than that literally what you've described is nothing more than a sandbox cyberpunk game. System Shock 2 and Deus Ex, to name the two best, both have essentially all necessary of your ideal characteristics excluding those that are impossible without being a sandbox game.

personally I don't think adding cyberpunk motifs into the mix will be anything but a novelty for sandbox FPS. it doesn't actually change much at all in terms of gameplay. contrast with post-apocalyptic sandbox games where the change in setting makes a fundamental change in gameplay.

Yes, you do.

No, you don't.

This.  Absolutely this.

Also, play KOTOR.

Those three games are all in the top 5 all time list.  You don't need sandbox if you have a well-written game, and all three of them are precisely that.

(SS2 is without a doubt my favorite game of all time.  It is also ****ing HARD).

Some people are like Slinkies.  They aren't really good or even useful for anything but they always manage to put a little smile on your face when you give them enough of a push down the stairs.

It seems you all have misunderstood me. I meant I wanted this games, or like games, to be in third person. I could never play a grand theft auto game in first person.

However, I generally like my shooters to be first person. Except destroy all humans.

I cannot for the life of me see why it matters.  I play both.

I've generally found TPS to either use TP as an excuse for a limited FOV and the controls are really awkward, and when you enter any sort of constricted area, the camera movement is jarring and also usually awkward. Haven't played a TPS where none of these have been true. It's not a game-breaker, but srsly it's annoying.

Depends on how much time you're willing to commit to exploring I think. Sandbox games are not for everyone, and especially not gamers that are just looking for a quick fix.

To be entirely fair, your proposal was poorly written.  And people respond poorly to poorly written proposals.
