Why have there been no bowler hats used? Do they no longer exist in the fictional future? Were they all destroyed in some hideous act of headwear genocide?

When the UEU went under, they destroyed all the bowler hats, their factories and the blueprints alongside their Aleyurian research. It's said that the last bowler hat ever produced (and indeed the last one to exist) went to a traveler only known as 'Alpha One', a person that came from parts unknown, flying an unknown ship, and was never seen again.

It is possible, though, that Dawn remembers how to make one...

was this alpha one also called Grey Wolf? If he is then that hat likely survived incineration at Capella.
