just what the hell does the pilot say on the intercom to the passengers in such a situation?

"Ladies and gentlemen, at this time we ask you to please fasten your seatbelts securely, grab hold of your ankles and tuck your head between your legs as we make our final approach without landing gear into warsaw.  The flight attendants will be around to collect your full vomit bags shortly after touchdown."

Apparently it was smooth enough that a lot of people thought the wheels had come out after all. Looking at the video, I believe it, and I'm impressed by the piloting and engineering that made it possible.

Last week there was this Boeing in Iran which made the landing without the nose gear (which to me sounds  a bit harder somehow - though it probalby is not)

And then there was that plane that managed to land in the Hudson bay just after Obama was elected.

yea, the aircraft slows down considerably before the nose wheel hits the tarmac. you even have enough lift to keep the nose off the ground so that you can apply breaks with the working wheels (it would take some considerable coordination to balance out the breaking torque with the counterlift from the horizontal stabilizer), so you wouldn't even really need to set the nose down until below highway speed.
