I have not really been following the case around all that jazz, but whenI see pictures like this I get that iffy feeling that mob justice is involved.
Then again, I do not know all the details. Medical mistakes are rather common, I find it rather strange that doctors are held fully accountable (because MJ's own behaviour might have led to these problems). In a society where you face persecution everytime someone dies, I would find it rather hard to be a doctor...

It just creeps me out somehow.

The ironic part if that I do consider the man guilty of medical malpractice and breaking the hippocratic oath, but yes, this was never about that, it was mever about him, it was about Micheal and people wanting to point fingers.

If it had been anyone else but Michael Jackson, he wouldn't have been dragged to court. Not to say that he isn't guilty.

The guy gave out a drug that was only meant to be administered in a hospital. It was a open and shut case by California law. The maximum sentence is 4 years if I understand correctly so it's not like we're talking about him getting a disproportionate amount of time for what after all a medically negligent act resulting in the death of his patient.

Yup, the case itself was fine, I'm not saying he didn't do anything wrong, he did, long before he ever administered the injection that killed Jackson he had stepped away from everything that made him a Doctor, the oath to do no harm and the responsibllity that comes along with it. My concern is that the people outside the trial were treating it as though this were a murder trial. Jackson was a drug addict, hundreds of them die each day and no-one gives a ****, his family could have helped him whilst he was alive, but rather looked at him as a piggy bank when he was dead.

Thing is, the Doctor was just a pawn in the game, and I can't help thinking he's being made a whipping boy for Jackson's 'imperfections' that led to his death.

I guess it's pretty fortunate then that the United States has a pretty fair and impartial legal system that isn't typically influenced by popular opinion.  It is irrelevant what anyone outside the judge, jury, prosecution, and defence say or do on the matter.

The facts of the case are open-and-shut.  It was high profile because of who died, but if you read the facts of the case it is fairly obviously a case of gross medical malpractice.  Granted, were it not a high-profile death then the initial investigation may not have been quite as thorough and revealed the malpractice, but this wasn't a frivolous case in the slightest.

That's rather like saying we shouldn't give a **** if suddenly Darius offed himself and BP never got done because most of us don't know him. While it's true that many people did not personally know Jackson, this does not mean that he did not reach many people via his work. Indeed, that was his job.

That so many people are concerned about his fate indicates how successful at doing his job he actually was.

Seems there are two themes running here.  It's quite obvious the doctor betrayed his oath for dollars and prescribed medication he really shouldn't have.  Granted Jackson more then likely would have found some other doctor without scruples if it wasn't Murray but he's the one who had the lax morals.  He was negligent and irresponsible in discharging his duties has to pay the price even if Jackson bears some responsibility for it as well.

As for the rich issue, wealth doesn't really factor into it, fame is the more accurate.  Plenty of wealthy blokes buy it everyday and it doesn't really cause a ripple.  Jackson was famous, he made an impact on music and dance that still reverberates today and was a world renowned star back in his heyday.  To deny his accomplishments and claim he should be remembered with no more acclaim then someone who made no impact on society during their life is folly.  Was his life worth more then another's? no.  But like it or not he was famous and that is what it is.

Pretty much this.  My dad's a pharmacist, and he was absolutely stunned that a doctor would be administering that drug outside of a hospital setting.  Propofol is an extremely powerful sedative, and at the very least, someone on it should have their vitals closely monitored, which wasn't the case with Michael Jackson.

As for the fact that Jackson was an addict...hell, look at the guy's life.  It's been ****ed up ever since he was a kid, and his antics over the decades are proof positive of that.  It's just a damn shame that he never got the help he so obviously needed.
