Moussaka. I cook a really mean moussaka but I only really have the chance to do so when I'm in the UK for 2 weeks a year!

I make a good mushroom risotto, probably one of my favourite meals if done with some chicken breasts wrapped in bacon and given a light filling of cream cheese, and choice of vegetables. (Steamed broccoli and asparagus go very well with it)

Dammit, RH, that does sound very tasty indeed. Gotta remember that.

You're very welcome  :D

My late grandmother made the best blueberry pies of all time.
The bakery in town that closed twelve or thirteen years ago made the greatest lemon deserts you could imagine.
Before it burned down, the Pizza joint by the public library had a really really good chicken parmigiana recipe.
Before the raccoons overran it, we had a vegetable garden with the best sweet corn ever. It was seriously delicious.
Before a few years ago, when my bee allergies got life-threateningly bad, I used to be able to get fresh organic raw honey straight from the hive. There's nothing quite as good as when you extract it yourself.

Huh. I seem to have a kind of depressing theme to my preferred foods.

Thanks for kicking off a good topic, FC. I've just depressed myself. I'm gonna go be sad now.

I'm not sure, could say I love marroc flavored icecream right now cause I had it yesterday, but that's definitely not the only thing I like.

I make a killer Spaghetti Bolognese, spent years perfecting the recipe. One of the most important things for mine is using self made tomato sauce if at all possible, not that concentrated crap you buy in the store that has so many additives in it it doesn't even taste like it ever had anything to do with tomatoes. The problem with this is, I can no longer eat it in a restaurant or at most other people's when invited over for lunch/dinner, because frankly it's just plain lacking. People confuse this for quick-to-cobble-together food when it's really not - takes hours to make properly. If it hasn't been simmering at least 3 times, last time being in red wine, and the balance of spice/tomato/wine hasn't been hit just right, and the meat wasn't pre-cooked in exactly the right way so it becomes a soft, homogenous mass that melts in your mouth.. it's simply not good.

i dont think i could cook with that level of perfectionism, and im certainly not very skilled when it comes to italian (i have a hard enough time making spaghetti palatable, and i still dont have a decent meatball recipe). i like some italian, and theres a lot i haven even tried. i cook on a budget, i cut corners if i have too, sometimes that means basing my sauce on something out of a can, using freeze dried spices over fresh (i can barely afford too do either), using low quality cuts of meat, or using frozen/canned veggies. of course what i do with that is still better than most restaurants i can afford to go to.
I can no longer sit back and allow communist infiltration, communist indoctrination, communist subversion, and the international communist conspiracy to sap and impurify all of our precious bodily fluids.

You can get away with tomato sauce from a store if it isn't the concentrated, tin can/tube kind - there's usually just plain tomato sauce in a glass bottle of some kind available. It's not as good as home made, or freshly squeezed tomatoes, but it works. Perfectionism is all good and well, but it's where the law of diminishing returns kicks in here; 80% of the price increase gets you the last 5% closer to perfection. You can definitely cook a very, very good meal that will beat most restaurants hands down, while still on a budget.

Self made tomato sauce I'd rank pretty high, mainly because it is pretty versatile base for a variety of meals.

The other thing I found is that if you eat healthy, good food consistently for a while its a good way to train yourself to not eat junk.  Similar to what newman mentioned crap food will taste like crap if you become accustomed to eating well.

Only fast food I can stomach is Subway and very occasionally a Pizza from a joint like Papa Johns. Anything else literally makes me sick (McDonalds... HUUURGH)

I have no probs eating occasionally in fast food temples like McDonalds ( which i don't like that much) or Burgerking and subways ( which i like ).
But selfmade stuff is just better. It's not only the taste of the junk food ( or the lack thereof) but also the fact that i have to eat large quantities of burgers to squish my hunger. And i can't be arsed to spend 15-20€ for each meal and get hungry after an hour.

I've eaten turkey for so many thanksgivings in a row.

What I really want this year is a good, homestyle country ham. Baked. I'm not exactly sure how she cooks it, but my mom can make one damn good country ham.

The other thing I'm really looking forward to on thanksgiving are those sweet potatoes with cinnamon and melted marshmallow on top.

**** dude, when I'm off of my ADHD medicine, it doesn't matter what I eat. I can make a toasted ham and cheese sandwich and load up on potato chips and I'll just get hungry again in an hour. REPEAT.

When I'm on it, I eat almost nothing.  :blah:
