NOooooo...game crashed during  the most tense and epic mission. Team , we got into a fubar situation and for 3 turns every alien on the map was shooting at headde! An they faield to kill him. It took us 3 turn to barely take 2 out.
Then their turn and they start shooting at headdei again..and miss and miss...and then they hit me (since I was covering headdie) and game crash!


NOTE:
In case you die...we can rebuild you. Better..stronger. :P

More aliens ships incoming. Mongoose downs 1 and we send a dropship. We're not even half way there when another UFO is detected.
Skydancer 2 is sent with a test loadout of 3 shiva cannons. Short range, but it should rip anything apart.



Our team deploys near a farm and we are immediately engaged.

Firespawn chucks a nade trough a opening in the wall, but it overshoots. He follows trough with a burst of pistol fire and the bugger falls.


Flamer guy and Scourge move in towards a large barn, only for Scourge to come under fire by a dual plasma pistol wielding alien that was hiding in the rafters. After a short fire exchange which leaves courge wounded, he darts to the side of the barn.


As we fan forward, we are greeted by an alein on the roof.
Everyone lines up and fires from everything, but we score precious few hits. Alien return fire, hitting Headdie and sniper girl, but our return barrage has him cowering on the far side of hte roof.



Sniper gurl finally gets him, while we heal the wounded and prepare to get the last one. Flamer guy kills that one, mission complete.




And then another UFO pops up, heading for our dropship. We retreat immediately.


On the plus side, the all-shiva loadout works great!

A few hours later, we get a destress call!

A golden opportunit to capture and UFO - and this one looks larger to boot!

The team is re-equipped ot better deal with the open spaces. Headde gets a bazooka. Firespawn gets 2 pistols, given his amazing luck with those things.
Firebird 1 deploys....



Area 51 base re-activated in the US:

It will take a month to get it operational, as I'm very picky with placing buildings (and you can only place one adjecent to a complete one).

EM gun is ready. Who wants it (uses heavy skill)?

Out team lands very close to the large and imposing UFO. Tem disemarks in an disorganized manner and an entire turn is wasted just to get them to form a battle-line



We see one alien and sniper girl and Headdie, the only with enough effective range, open up on the target



They both miss...horribly. Where the rocket ended up, I really cannot tell.



At this point, a mechanicla spider emerges from the alien craft and heads toward us.


Sparda and Firespawn open up with reactive fire. Firespawns accuracy is exemplary, but the thing keep coming. Finally, Scourge run down and blasts it from poitn blank with a shotgun burst. the thing is tough.


Everyone re-positions. Headde and sniper girl sircle around the craft, me and Scourge proceed to sweep hte inside of hte UFO, while hte rest circles from the other side.
Sniper gril manages ot finish off tha alie and both her and Headde move up to the body




Melvin, Firespawn and Xan Darr encounter and ohter alien and their combined reaction fire heavily wounds it (not a single miss from Firespawn again - look at the friggin range!). Melvin brings it down.




The UFO appears to be clear and we finally locate the last alien:

Hold up in the house, we approach catiously, using logs and hay bales as cover.


Melving finally finishes it with a few well-placed shots.

Mission sucess, UFO captured!


This is followed by another mission securing a downed UFO scout. 3 aliens ,no wounded on our side. Kills made by yours truly, Sparda and Xen Darr.

EDIT:  Well, I tried the game, not very good at it honestly.  But if you have an opening, I'd like to have a shotgun (if they're a good weapon in this game) and preferably a secondary that I can use for potshots at a longer range.  Of course, you get the final say.

There's always openings. 1 team is not enough to cover the whole globe.

As soon as hte second base is operational, I'll see about setting up another team.

Got to say, so far we have been VERY lucky.
All the mission so far went without casualteis...which is rather unexpected. And Headdie's luck moreso than anyone elses. In one mission he survived 30+ plasma shots wiht only minor wounds.
The rest of the squad tried to shave him and make lucky charms out of his hair.

Oh well - another day, another downed UFO


On alien is granaded to death by Xan Derr.

The wreckage of the craft makes positioning tricky and most of the team can't get a shot. Worse yet, Scourge an Firespawn who are the closest both have close combat weapons. That doens't stop them from trying. Even at this range, Firespawn gets a hit, but it's not enouigh to kill the alien.


Sniper girl and Melvin (who was given a sniper rifle) hunker next to the dropshisp to cover our troops as we advance. Scourge makes a bee-line trough the building to flank the alien, while me and Sparda circle from the other side, headdie behind us.

We are ambushed by 3 aliens - two emerge from the far side of the village, and another opens fire on us from the upper floor of the small shop next to us.

Headde, the ever-popular bullet magnet gets the worst of this exchange, but his luck holds. Sparda gets 1 plasma bolt to the chest but returns fire and badly wounds the alien.

I finish the alien off, and dart behing the building, having just enough TU's left. The alien above is killed (can't recall by whom anymore..firespwan of one of the snipers methinks) and our troops move in. Sparda has enough TU's left to take 3 steps back, just enough to get some minimal cover from the building.
Our snipers fail to bring down the aleins and sniper gurl gets injnured.

Next turn however, they wound it enough for headdie to finish it with a well-placed burts.

Scourge and Firespawn move closer in, while the rest of the team readies first aid kits for the wounded.
The sheer ammount of fire throawn at the alien causes it to flee and cower. Firespawn manages to get a few hits in, even trough the wreckage.


Finally Scourge finished his flanking manouver and delivers death from the top of the map.


Another victory for our glorious team!

A new contact emerges on our radar. In the skies above Norway, we detect a large UFO.

I recongnize it as the same large UFO we captured. While we haven't completed an analysis of it yet, a visual inspections told me enough. It is heavily armored and unlike the scout - it is armed.
Skydancer 1 and 2 are ready, but I decide to keep them grounded. If the UFO escapes it will reflect poorly on us - but I can't risk loosing fighters and equipment now. We can't afford to replace them or the piltos. Mongoose isn't happy about it.
I gamble that if it's a transport, it's bound to land somewhere and our chances are better on the ground than in the air. My gamble pays off, as it lands in Hamburg ourtskits.



The team deploys in an industrial area. I regret giving Headdie a rocket launcher a I doubt it will see any use here. The team fans out.



Headdie, Malvin, Sparda and Xan Derr take one flank and move towards the refining complex.
Firespawn, Sniper gurl, Scourge move forward and spot an alien near the UFO.
I move into the building to try and flank it alone.

The alien misses horribly, but so do we.

Firespawn moves a bit closer and gets a hit in. Scourge moves even closer, and loaded with flechette shells takes a shot. At the extreme of his range, it barely grazes the alien.
Another alien pops up at the refining area, but our flanking team doesn't have a clear shot. All of his shots miss horribly, stopped by various obstructions.



The flanking team moves a bit closer, using crates as cover. I pop trough the door and place myself betwwen the alien and Scourge. Just enough TU's left for a 5-round burts....that misses.
Everyone who could shoot at the alien already did. And now it's time for the enemy turn. Doesn't look good.


The alien takes two pot shots that miss and then charges Firespawn...passing right next to me and Scourge. Very bad move.

At this range, the flechette shotgun tears it apart brutally.

On the other side, Melvin and Sparda take out the pestering alien.
We now move into the ship, catiously.



We camp the stairs, and sure enough, the aliens come down drawn by the noise. With all AP's put into reaction fire, me and Firespawn bring the last two aliens down.



VICTORY!!!! And another large UFO for us!

Our UFO yard is almost full. I contemplate hireing more people so we can work in shifts. The guys earned a rest.

I'ts actually funny as the skill used depends on fire mode and ammo.

Granade launcher is Heavy/Explosive methinks. It also has flechette ammo, si it might even use assault for that one. Will have to check.

EM rifle is a heavy weapon, but uses actaully Assault(single shot, burst) /Sniper (aim)

Shotgun is Close (normal ammo)/ Assault (Flechette ammo)

With some few extra bucks earned by sellign some of the alein tiems, I decite to hire some more muscle.

Retsof, Dekker adn Ravenholme join our ground troops, while crizza take command of Skydancer 2 (all shiva cannon loadout)
Me, Melvin Hufflestone III and Xen Darr, take a break and let the new blood step in.


A light UFO lands in the middle east and we eagerly pounce upon it. So far we only shot down these scouts and don't posses a single one in tact.

The team drops down hot (as usual) and come into contact with the enem immediately.




Sniper Girl (now nick-named vixen) and Firespawn kill this one fast and we fan out.

Headdie with a grenade launcher hugs left, Sparda and scourge follow him, while Retsof, Firespawn and Ravenholme move arund, trugh the houses.
Vixen covers the alley.


And alin comes from the alley and charges at Vixen. She hits him, but that doesn't slow it down. Before it can fire on her however, Retsof headshots it with a sniper rifle.


We begin a sweep, going form house to house lookign for more aliens. Retsof and vixen covers us from the roofs. After quite a long search, we find the last alien chasing civiliant athhte other edge of the map.

Retsof hits is with precision reaction fire and the alein changes target, runnign for him. This however, brings him into range of Ravenholmes SMG'.


Another victory.

The next day saw two contact pop up almost simountaneously.


The team is immediately dispatched with the same weapon configuration. Skydancer 2 is sent after the UFO.

We land next to a stadium, the alien UFO nowhere to be seen. Only hte screams from the building convince u they are still there.



We move quickly - close comabt specialists go around the back trough the lockers, Vixen keeps the main entrance covered, while everyone else goes up to use hte height advantage.


Dekker and Headdie are the first to climb up and are greeted with 5 battle-ready aliens below.
Headde, wanting to make use of their clustering, runs down and fires a burst of grenades (which where supposed to be incendiery, but normal grenades were loaded).

That is still enough to kill 3 of them. Dekker  has only enough AP's for a single burts - not enough to take out the 4th alien, wounded by hte explosions. The rest of the team is lagging behind and won't be able to make it this turn - another huge mistake.

Sparda and Retsef run up, but don't have enough TU's left to fire.

Tragedy strikes! The aeeins run up close adn throw plasma grenades!

Headdies luck finally runs out, he is hit and falls, the rest are  wounded. A small consolation is that the grenade bounced and killed the 4th alien.
Crying bloody vengance, Dekker and Retsof finish it off.

We return victorious, but there is no celebration.
Headdie is post-humusly awared the rank of Lance-Corporal.



And no even an hour later, a critical IFF mistake is descovered, as the craft Skydancer 2 was sent to intercept was NOT an alien Scout, but an alien fighter. Not being properly equipped, Skydancer 2 is lost, Crizza is MIA and a serch party is sent out.

A dark day for our organization indeed.

SUMMARY:
Crap happened. Wrong shells loaded (incendieary would have killed em all), I mvoed too fast forward and I mis-identifed the UFO. Fighter and scout look very similar and I didn't expect it to pop up so soon. Loss of equipment (fully kited-out stilleto) is severe given our lack of moneys. :(

I am contemplating a re-load, but I'm nto sure. Headde, you can roll a new character if we don't re-try..
....
