Something hit me and gave me an movie idea.
Could be used to promote ourselves but I just think it would be a cool movie and fool people with this idea if it's well done.

The Source of my Idea...
I remember a game I love which is Urban Assault from 1995. It's a combined first-person shooter and real-time strategy computer game. Read about it here -> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Urban_Assault
It's what the genre says. It's a real-time strategy like Red Alert or whatever, but you can at the same time, join the battle. You can hop in any created unit and join the fight. Pretty awesome, it's to bad I didn't see more development then this group of people that kinda started the same thing as HardLight Productions-> http://www.metropolisdawn.com/

My Idea...
We have seen the mod Blue Planet Mod for Homeworld 2. How about making a movie recording from Homeworld 2 BPMod first, and zooming in to a ship and thats when it cuts to FreespaceOpen BP and you are fighting inside the game. Making it look like you are still playing HW2 but you just joined the battle ^^
It would be hard but I don't think it would be to hard to make the Universe in both HW2 and FSOBP look identical so when you zoom in to the ship and enter, it's the same.

Could be called something like "a new mod" blabla, the idea is if done properly, the movie will be cool, and fool a lot of people which is fun ^^

Me myself will look into this ofc and try making it with the time I have. But I just want you guys opinions and feel free to take my idea and do it yourself, since my FRED capibilties are very limited. I might have created 1 mission that was playable
So.. Opinions?

It's pretty easy to see tons of differences between the FSO engine and the HW2 engine. Won't fool anyone.

Ofc many people here would notice difference quite easilly. Perhaps a normal FS or HW gamer could notice it to. Would still be a cool movie cuz the movie itself will be gameplay footage and battle.

Trailers all too often promise stuff the actual game can't do. All you would get with such an idiotic move are disappointed people.

It'd be... kinda cool as machinima, I guess - it could be quite a clever to advertise both mods, as long as the viewer was made aware that it was 2 separate mods in the same universe. Otherwise it's pretty dickish.

Well, I'm not trying to be an jackass... It would be like an april fools day thing.
Just a fun idea. Prob as you say, few would be fooled, but I would not make it look like a **** gameplay vid thats boring.
But yeye Maybe I'll put my mind to do it or not ^^

Hey, it's not actually "idiotic", and it can be a showcase of creativity. It'd be fun to actually see the Colossus firing at an Orion-class destroyer from long-range (Homeworld), then suddenly zoom in and have the camera rotate and do crap around the Repulse vs. Colossus duel...provided that the background, the distance of the ships, and stuff are same in both versions.

But can't this be done anyway with fancy camera tricks by just using FRED2 Open? (like what they did in the epic FSO trailer)??

That would be cool. But the cool thing is, you actually play homeworld 2 with the menus and everything, then zoom in and it's changed to FS, and the battle and amount of ships would be the same
