Hello,

first thing congratulations for your great work, it's great to see this fine game revived and improved!

I'd like to ask a quick question:

I downloaded the game and noticed there have been some major balance changes.
On mission 1 (easy difficulty) there  are not enough RP to proceed as scripted (6k Vs 16k or more of the original), plus mechs seems to take much more damage than vanilla.

Is it by design or does the campaign need to be rebalanced for the new exe features?

Thanks!

Re: Carver V Campaign - Mission 1
It's intentional(mostly to make it more challenging, IIRC). Just enough for the repair truck. AIs are smarter, now(you can't rely on the old "bait 'n drag" AI exploit that let you pretty much dominate 90% of retail MC2 missions, which alone, IMO, is a pretty huge deal), and the game also now supports indirect-firing LRMs at hostile sensor blips, not just at 'Mechs and vehicles currently in LOS of a unit, which means those LRM Carriers can be a threat even when none of their fellow units can see you directly. Ranges are longer, too.

I could probably go on for a while; it is a bit harder, but in many ways, a fresh, yet still familiar experience for those who've played retail MC2.

Re: Carver V Campaign - Mission 1
I see and I welcome the added challenge in general, however this particular point imho might be a tad overdone as it breaks immersion.
Not being able to do what the interface tells you imho detracts from the overall experience and one salvaged mech is not going to make a huge difference in game, especially as later on you're able to reap huge amounts of cash.

I'd try to change it myself but unfortunately the mission editor CTDs whenever I try to load or save something.

Re: Carver V Campaign - Mission 1
@ Zarax,

if you want to change things like a mission's maximum dropweight, credits per mission objectives or even add enemies you can do this by editing a mission's FIT file located in MCO's "data/missions" folder.

In your case here, if you want more ressource points for Carver V's mission one, go into the MCO/data/missions folder and look for the file "mc2_01.fit" and open it with a text editor program like notepad or notebook (whatever the program you get for free with windows is called...)

Either look manually or use the search system to find the line:
Quote
l ResourcePoints = 6000
and just change the number to that which you require, 16000 for example if you want it.
Just remember to keep things like the layout of the text the same because a simple mistake like writing "l ResourcePoints =10000" instead of "l ResourcePoints = 10000" can cause a mission to crash.

Hope this helps

Re: Carver V Campaign - Mission 1
Thanks, I actually found it out this morning and started adjusting the values to match either vanilla or the bare minimum to not break mission immersion.

BTW, I noticed that post-mission salvage seems to be gone as well, is that intentional too or am I missing something?

EDIT: Mech customization does not seem to be available on mission 4, is there a readme somewhere by any chance and how can I re-enable that?

Thanks!

IIRC these were modifications made by Magic to make the campaign a bit harder, but re-enabling them is pretty straightforward.

To do this there is another .fit  file you need to modify that you will find in the MCO/data/campaign folder. In that folder find the file "carver 5.fit" and you should have text that looks like this:

Quote
...
[Group0Mission0]
st FileName = "mc2_01"
b Mandatory = TRUE
st PurchaseFile = "Purchase01"
b PlayLogistics = FALSE
b PlaySalvage = FALSE
b PlayPilotPromotion = TRUE
b PlayPurchasing = FALSE
b PlaySelection = FALSE
...

change the line from FALSE to TRUE to enable the features in the missions that you want.
