BSSG Myrdin conversion help?
I have the worst luck when it comes to ship conversions. My first complete model for Freespace was the BSSG Myrdin, (Black Sun Sentry Gun) reminiscent of the GTSG Mjolnir. My hierarchy does not work well, and when it does, it does not reveal the mesh in any of the programs like POFCS. 2-3 years of attempts have gotten me nowhere, and halt my attempts at creating the graveyard of all Freespace 2 ships through lack of technical skill in the conversion process.

May I get some assistance? I realize what I'm asking for might be a bit of a stretch. Also, I have since updated the original mesh for a far more detailed mesh to blend with the newer detail projects reworking all the ships in the game to improved graphics. (Though I am not sure if mine is up to the same standards)

The interior and exterior of the turret barrel have 'alcoves' for the lights. The reactor in the back now comes in two parts: The reactor, and the braces. I would love to be able to have the reactor glow a brilliant yellow.


Zip file attachment includes the full model (with shield) in a single .obj format, along with all the textures in .jpg and pcx.


As a side note, there are no debris objects. The In-game reason is that the reactor powering it is so violent when it explodes, that it leaves nothing remaining. (Think of a Meson Bomb as its power source. It probably is.)

I have pulled apart the model and so far so good ( everything got joint into one mesh during conversion).  what movements to you want to different components to do? note that rotation is the only movement type FS can handle at the moment and translation is a pig to do (we all live in hope this changes) involving the use of several joined rotating objects.

Ah! Great! :)

The model wasn't designed with moving pieces, unfortunately, as cool as it would be. (Perhaps another model will have it :P) The four panels are shield panels (I think I should add Damaged versions so that they can be destroyed like physical subsystems. :/ (Yet the thing loses its health and shields so quickly in my old tests, that it doesn't matter too much in standard combat. But a scenario mission could make it important to have damaged parts. :/)

Ok give this a try and see if it does what you want, aside from essential modifications to make it work the included table is the GTSG Mjolnir.

In editor, everything but the turret base appears (The section with rings). Ingame, however, only the turret appears, (and shield) but I can collide with the rest of the model.

I do thank you for your attempt, and for your great organization of the folder you sent me. I think you've given me a good idea of what went wrong, and the process in how I can convert it. :) So thank you very much :)
