Wireless Headphones, need recommandations
Hello HLP'lers

I live now in a new appartment, which is really nice. However, since i do not want to anger my new landlord (is that correct ?  :p It's google translation, meaning the person i rent the appartment from  :p) and since I'm missing loud music, I thought about buying myself a (good) headphone.

Now, here is what I need :

I need a headphone that is :

- wireless
- has good sound when playing computer games (for that, It can be wired of course)
- offers good sound when moving through my appartment, max 1 wall between the headphone and my PC.
- Should fit more or less convenient to ear and head
- it's ok (and even better) if it has big speakers which cover the entire ear

The soundcard I'm using is Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS, running on W7.

Money does not really count. For a headphone that is really good I'm willing to spent more money.

Any recommandations ?

Cheers
Starman

Re: Wireless Headphones, need recommandations
i was once a proud owner of beyerdynamic RSX550 headphones. quite good, advertised range is 100 meters, but i havent used them farther than 10 meters apart.

they sounded damn good and fit nicely. as i have quite a large head, it was rare to find headphones like that that actually fit.

the bad part was that they ate batteries for breakfast. i had 3 2xAA 1000mAh sets around just for them.
better get a dedicated charger for them, as the headphone's charger is slow as ****, to be kind to them.
8 hours charging, 2 hours of playing with their charger
4 hours charging, 12 hours of playing with a dedicated charger.

(12 hours on a drumset tho, didnt use them with the pc much, since neighbour noise was not an issue at all.)

Astro Gaming A40 wireless mixamp + headset...
The battery pack that you can pick up separately is worth it, I get multiple days of 4 to 8 hour gaming sessions out of them.

Pricey, but worth it.

If you want straight headphones.... over the ear cans... Audio-Technica ATH AD700 are sweet comfortable cans.  Wired.

Re: Wireless Headphones, need recommandations
Admittedly, I haven't used many sets of wireless headphones, as generally the good wireless sets are out of my price range..... but just in case you're also considering wired sets, I loved my Panasonic RP-HTX7's. Though you should try them first; they're not a neutral set by any stretch, but they're dynamic, clear, and do a pretty decent job of instrument separation at a 50$ price point, if you can still find them. Also, most of the SoundMAGIC IEMs are surprisingly good for between 15 and 60 bucks IIRC, I have the 15 dollar PL11s and I'm quite happy with them.

Re: Wireless Headphones, need recommandations
Thanks so far guys. I'm going to check these models on amazon. As I said, money is no problem. I'm willing to pay up to 250 € for something really good. But batteries are a factor, i forgot. I have +10 akku laying around which I constantly charged and flipped through my electronic stuff. So, as long as the headset can work a few hours, it's fine. Distance is not a problem I guess. I will be seldom more than 10 meters away from my pc when having them one.

How are they connected btw ? Is there a connector for the soundcard external plugs ? Or is it USB based (then I need a bridge, I do not have any usb slots left)

usually they have a standard audio jack from the source to the headphone base. there's also the power cable for the base's transmitter and charger. i havent personally seen usb based ones, but they might be used somewhere. as always, check with the manufacturer first.

The astro wireless you'll probably find through their site. Although check eBay... used market is good.
Mostly by way of optical in/out... though if I recall some other cables come i the box too.

Re: Wireless Headphones, need recommandations
I used to own wireless headphones. I had a ****load of problems with it and I eventually figured out that they were caused by Audigy 2 ZS. The biggest problem was that the audio occasionally cut off, then returned a moment later. Changing to onboard audio fixed the problem. After that I haven't used wireless headphones, but then again I don't have Audigy 2 ZS anymore either. I swear I've had more problems with Audigys than any other computer hardware ever.

I do own Logitech G35's though, they're decent. There's wireless version of them, the G930's. You may want to look for those and compare to other suggestions.
