I think it's just the free market at work. I believe there's money to be made in having more likes and subscriptions.

... which is another pet peeve of mine that the internet is drowning beneath ads attached to ridiculous things.    your average idiot posting stupid videos on youtube trying to go viral is never going to make a noteworthy amount of money on letting google ad-rape their videos.  i told google to **** off when they said "hey, you MIGHT make a few cents if you let us irritate everyone who watches your video!!"  this was on the same video they told me someone else owned earlier.  that i shot with my own camera of a band that was not attached to the company who "owned" the video.
