Hi... I'm new here.

One thing I loved about the original Prometheus trailer was that it barely gave you an idea of what to expect... but personally, the original Alien Trailer is still the best trailer ever made... the beautiful thing about it was that it was spoiler-free.

The TED Talk was good (interestingly enough, I did visit the real TED website), and the David 8 introduction was awesome. Twenty bucks says they start shipping the David series about seven to eleven years from now.

Re: Prometheus: ahhhh what the ****
Posting here after seeing the movie. Have to say, I was pretty disappointed. :(

Spoiler:
My biggest issue was that the characters were two-dimensional and weren't developed enough for their actions to make sense, and so as a result the story suffered. The most interesting character out of the lot was the Android, and I thought even he could have used a little bit of work. He could've been a bloody interesting character, and was shaping up to be, but the point at which he makes the throwaway line about wanting to kill our parents, I lost hope. For me, his motives were never explained, and neither were any of the other characters'.

The antag who happens to be old mate's daughter was probably my least favourite. Throughout the film she was this two-dimensional ragefaced megalo, as far as I could tell. The why was never explained adequately for me. And old mate, just...argh. In my blinded-with-disappoint rage, I just struggle to comprehend why he was even in the movie. So many characters just added nothing!

So yeah. Didn't really like this one. And I thought it was gonna be so good. :(

Disclaimer: I've never seen any of the other movies in the series.

I haven't seen the movie, but just going on the trailer Fassbender does an excellent android.  Feels like HAL 9000 in an animate body.

Re: Prometheus: ahhhh what the ****
Saw the movie, and...

Spoiler:
I liked it during and briefly after the movie, but afterwards a lot of things started to annoy me. Firstly, the trailers kinda spoiled half of the story. Secondly, trailers and elements in the movie (mostly the crashing space jockey ship) led me to believe that it was the same ship than the one in Alien, and only after consulting the internet did I realize it wasn't, and that the story had directly nothing to do with Alien. Thirdly, space jockeys being basically human was boring, and them having nothing to them besides "they're evil" was very disappointing. Fourthly, a lot of the characters were shallow and their actions didn't make sense or weren't believable.

Saw it, really enjoyed it. I see how they tied it in with the original films, as well. I'd recommend seeing it. It's not perfect (duh) but it doesn't dissapoint IMO.

Re: Prometheus: ahhhh what the ****
I would give this an eight point five out of ten. Now I have to wait for the Hobbit...  :(

Character development wasn't the best (there were about 17 crew, but we only get to see about 10).

I would have been freaking happy if...
Spoiler:
Peter Weyland's arc was done a bit longer and something that was not cheating death, his part in the story was just plain out of focus and essentially busted the whole journey.

On the other hand... SOMEONE has to wonder what the hell the purpose of the Space Jockey on LV-426 was...

If you're sick of the usual horror flicks, Prometheus is a nice refresher. David was single-handedly the best character, but you have to wonder what else has he done for the whole two years on the journey while everyone else was in cryo.

Also, I'm kinda wondering how much of practical effects Scott and company added to enhance the believability factor of the film (watching Alien, I remember how the team actually took the time to build the whole set, and how the Nostromo had a scale model that was gliding along space, suspended by ultrathin wires).

It's kinda sad that I had to wait for a damned twenty minutes of trailers before Prometheus started up. (The show was supposed to start at 12:40 PM PDT where I live, but it really started at 1:00.)

aye, no dicks.

Imagine the power this film would have to mentally traumatize the next generation if we were able to make that happen. As if this film didn't scare at least one person enough from archaeology or having children...

Saw it a few hours ago. It was not perfect and certainly not without flaws. However, I went into it expecting "scary **** happens in space" and I'd say it delivered. :)

That scene, more than any scene since
Spoiler:
a particularly brutal and realistic scene involving nonconsensual activities and their aftermaths from a film I saw some years ago, makes me glad my anatomy does not include female reproductive organs. The idea of something growing inside you...

Also, That monster was, I think, the best use of the double-chekhov that I've seen in a good long while.

Re: Prometheus: ahhhh what the ****
Just saw the movie and I have to say I am dissapointed.

\rant
Spoiler:
The movie seemed riddled with plot holes and convoluted logic. The characters all seemed to have death wishes, from the geologist whose first action inside what was a freaking cave was to shout, then the biologist who thinks nothing wrong with the crew removing their helmets on an unknown environment that seems to support life, the same biologist who was terrified five minutes before about alien life didn't seem to mind flirting with probably the same alien life form, the two female characters running for their lives from the falling alien ship didn't seem to think that running to the sides might have been a better idea (clearly didn't play Into the Lion's Den), the female executive wouldn't budge about letting the sick guy onto the ship and yet had no problems with letting the other dozen people who had been with the guy, etc. The list goes on and on and on. Just to add one more, the air capacity of the suits seemed to be inconsistent, with the suits having potentially lots of air, from the guys who had no problem staying god knows how long in the structure to the main character having lack of it when she escaped the structure near the end (even though she probably had planned to stay in the structure longer).

The movie is riddled with these inconsistencies and character death wishes. My final regret is that the only human character that survived was the one I found most irritating.

Re: Prometheus: ahhhh what the ****
A flawed movie, definitely not the best I've seen recently, but entertaining nonetheless.  However, I'm beginning to think all sci-fi screen- and game- writers should have to take a mandatory course in genetics.  I inevitably have to switch off my brain whenever any of popular media these days talks biology because, despite the information being so easy to obtain, they always get it brutally wrong.

And the ring-running thing.  That annoyed me.  And the "scientific expedition" members who figured it was smart to breathe the atmosphere on an alien world...

Well, at least it has real sets instead of a whole heap of green screens. Although I guess that is like saying "The dog crapped in my slipper, at least it wasn't on the carpet!"

Re: Prometheus: ahhhh what the ****
I was hoping for more but it's yet another film that spent too much money on special effects and not enough on writing. Compared to Alien 4, it has better special effects, less plot and worse writing (Which is saying something!).

It had potential, but felt like it 3/4 of the film had been cut out - There were so many points where the characters make a huge leaps of logic but then can't put 2 and 2 together.

And so much stupidity on the part of the characters, with the crowning moment for me being that part where the two people are running away from the thing when all they needed to do was take two side steps and they would be safe! But nooooo, they have to run along the path it's travelling!

It feels like it's just something to launch a spinoff for a series starring the idiot woman and the disembodied head off the back of the success of the Alien series...
