Prometheus: ahhhh what the ****
Ridley Scott's xenomorph-free Alien prequel, focused on the space jockeys and some new and absolutely ****ing horrifying parasitic ****, hits in a bit over a month. The first trailer is one of the better ones I've ever seen.

Michael Fassbender plays a truly unnerving Weyland Corporation android, Charlize Theron is a hard-ass corporate exec named Vickers, Noomi Rapace plays a scientist named Shaw who seems to, uh, encounter something really squick-inducing. The latest trailer is a bit too spoilery and I'd suggest not watching it, but ****, this movie looks like it's going to really deliver on the body horror.

e: Additional props go to the excellent production design and atmospheric CGI.

And the astoundingly good viral marketing! Short, spoiler-free clips of great interest:

Peter Weyland gives a TED talk in the future
An introduction to Weyland's ever-helpful, ever-creepy androids.
An absolutely stellar acting showcase with Michael Fassbender as the android David

Yeah... I'm kinda worried that I already saw all the good bits in the trailer and the rest of the movie is gonna be boring filler.

Wouldn't be the first time... but yeah, I do so wanna see this right now. :)

Anything to do with Alien always grabs my attention

As for the trailers being as they are... well that's kinda what trailers have been doing lately unfortunately
Whatever happened to The Shining style of trailers?

That's cool battuta, but you could have picked a better title for this topic.
Not everyone is an athetist on hlp. (I figured you should know better, considering your posts about how the misusage of the word rape is offensive to some people)

But yeah, this looks like it could be worth watching.

Intriguing.  I hadn't heard of this before.  I wonder if the title is more than a reference to the ship name - "Prometheus" is the name of Dr. Frankenstein's "monster" in the classic novel.  Possibilities, possibilities...

The movie makes an explicit connection to the mythical Prometheus' attempt to steal fire from the gods, I believe. Weyland Corporation is probably trying to nab space jockey biotech.

Call me childish, but that sounded like some sort of innuendo.

As opposed to the 'space jockeys' who already have said biotech and not only use it to try and play god, but also actively deny the humans access to said biotech?

Probably nothing that a greedy corporation won't do in the alien's place.

For the record, the creature created by the titular doctor in the Mary Shelley novel 'Frankenstein or The Modern Prometheus' was never named in the text, but was commonly referred to by the author as being named 'Adam,' after the character in Genesis. </derail>

I have no recollection of the monster ever being reference by the good doctor as Adam, but it has admittedly been several years since I last read the book.

There is the 'modern Prometheus' in the title, though.

Re: Prometheus: ahhhh what the ****
Right, but that's a reference to the Doctor, who is stealing the divine 'fire' to create life. And like I said, the creation is never given a name in the text.

Re: Prometheus: ahhhh what the ****
the lack of a name is actually an important plot point as it deprives the monster of identity and humanity.

Re: Prometheus: ahhhh what the ****
Oh my good Doctor Frankenstien you sorry sod.  You create an superhuman being that ruins your life, murders your woman and friends, albeit due to your own negligence.  Despite knowing the capabilities of your opponent instead of opting to train and extensively prepare yourself to exact proper revenge upon your foe you chase after him like a pathetic amateur and wind up turning into an Swisssicle.

Bad Form my dear chap, Bad Form. :nono:

The viral marketing for this movie has been so good I think I'm going to add it to the OP.
