When 3 Tribes go to War...
Right, I have a question about FRED2. Here it is, now that I've reeled you in with the singularly crap title...

Has anyone had success in getting 3 sides in a mission to fight one another equally? Making one group neutral and one hostile means that the friendly side (ie. you) gets mashed most, and the neutrals won't attack the hostiles. Making a group of "unknown" IFF just produces a rubbish 'benign' side.

Any ideas? Does "all teams at war" function in Singleplayer as well as Multi, because I haven't seen much effect when using it.

Yes you can get a Neutral, Friendly, and Hostile teams to fight each other.  It is in a ST mission.
It's a fact.  Stupid people have stupid children.  If you are stupid, don't have sex.  If you insist on having sex.  Have sex with animals.  If you have sex with an animal.  Make sure the animal is smarter than you are.  Just encase of some biological fluke you and the animal have offspring, they won't be as stupid as you are.   One more thing.  Don't assume the animal is protected.  If the animal has a condom, or if female some interuterian device, insist they wear it.  Help stop this mindless mindlessness.  Keep your stupidty to yourself.  This message was brought to you by the Committee of Concerned Citizens that are Smarter than You are.

The neutrals do attack the hostiles and vice versa but they both have a preference for going after friendlies. Some event scripting and random ignore commands should help get past that, though. You kind of just have to simulate some of these things so that the player sees it in a different way than what is actually happening. ;) (make it so that the hostiles and neutrals are fighting at a distance from the friendlies, have certain ships only attack you when you fire weapons, etc.) As for that "all teams at war thing," I have not really noticed much of a difference with it either.

i've done something like this..  you need the "all teams at war checked" and then you can get a 4-way war going.

Okay, thanks. I'll try using "all teams at war" again and set up some battles between hostiles and neutrals too, to see what happens. CP, whatyou suggest would take quite a bit of sexp-ing, but I think I could manage. :)

It all depends on what they most want to kill. If team 2's main orders are to kill something on team 3, then they'll largely ignore you.

I scripted something like this in an FS1 mission a while back, in which HOL and pirates fight each other for territory and supplies. Your team of mercs goes in and steals an HOL Thoth fighter for yourself, in the middle of the chaotic fight. (I liked Thoths back then.)

It worked pretty well, I thought. :)
