There's even a special event in the game with my name in it. 


As far the game itself? It's a very slick 4X. UI and strategic aspect are amazing. Combat...ehh, not so much. Very rock/paper/scissory.

I read this a lot whenever I see or read anything about the game. And its kind of make or break thing for me.
I don't really mind not having any control directly over the battle (like http://youtu.be/U1QYMFGEv5M), but what ive seen from endless space it just looks... boring and... well, bad. http://youtu.be/EwLbal5cdbw?hd=1 every battle show in this video looks the same. Chance based and frankly... kinda dull. I could just sit back and relax watching cool space battles in Nexus or Homeworld, because they are awesome looking but this already bored me to tears after 4 minutes.
I'd really like to play a good 4x game again, I just dont wanna autoresolve every battle.

I'ts not THAT bad. You got 3 weapons types (kinetics, missiles and beams) and 3 defense types, so in that aspect if your ships don't have any defense against enemy weapons..yikes.
You got 3 combat stages and 1 card you can "play" at each stage. Cards give certain modifiers or have other special effects, and can increase defense agaisnt specific weapon types, increase accuracy, etc..

Devs say that they will continue working on it after release and comabt will be a big focus then.

What Spoon's getting at is Endless Space's combat is two fleets each flying in a straight line shooting at each other with meh visual effects.
