My father is almost inconsolable. Come to think of it, so am I.

Godspeed, Neil Armstrong. The moon landing, in my opinion, was probably one of the most important events in all of human history, the sum total of human ingenuity and determination.

  • The sky is the limit.
Flew Panthers from a carrier in Korean War, X-15, Gemini 8, Apollo 11 and a number of other aircraft, many of them experimental. Tested F-100, F-104, F-105, F-106, KC-135 and B-47, among other aircraft. First human to set foot on the moon, a member of a Scottish clan Armstrong (that's right, he even had a piece of Armstrong tartan with him on the moon). Investigated Apollo 13 and Challenger explosion. USN Lieutenant, Junior Grade and all round badass. It's hard to believe that all this was done by one man, in one life, but there you have it.

So, rest in peace, Armstrong, you earned it.

just gives us more reasons to go back. id hate to live in a world where the first hand experience of the moon landing is absent from living memory.
I can no longer sit back and allow communist infiltration, communist indoctrination, communist subversion, and the international communist conspiracy to sap and impurify all of our precious bodily fluids.

Just heard this on the radio. :(  RIP first moonwalker.
In my world of sleepers, everything will be erased.
I'll be your religion, your only endless ideal.

I wonder if Buzz Aldrin would add "..and punch someone who doesn't believe he actually walked on the moon" :)

Seriously though, it's a very sad loss.

My heart bleeds and my soul weeps the tears of a thousand tragedies.... :blah:

We should not weep for Neil Armstrong's death, we should instead celebrate his life and achievements, let him remain an inspiration to all of us, and an example of a man who always strode for the stars.

Mr. Neil Armstrong, at the helm of humanity's extreme desire to satiate its curiosity of the stars, one of humanity's finest, my childhood hero, I salute you,  may God look upon you with mercy and compassion, and may your spirit/soul find peace.

This really ruined last night for me. Got home from hosting an event for the Friends of Palomar Observatory and was feeling pretty good about the turnout and the whole Palomar outreach program in general, fired up the computer before I went to bed, saw this.

It took me a long time to find the will to even close the window. I never did actually make it to my bed.
