Re: ver. 240 bug reporting
Hi,

hasn't magic uploaded yet ? Sorry, I will remind him again ;) We would be happy if some freelancer coders help out, even if it's just a bit. Magic is currently really stressed, working to much on MCO :)

Technically the game is not handled as open source project in spe. We have our goals what we want to achive, but not really that way, that everyone can always touch our work. But we welcome everyone who wants too.  The orignal code itself is being offered for download at MS website.

Re: ver. 240 bug reporting
Echelon9,

I will make the source available to you next week.

Just a reminder :) Btw, is this project actually being managed as open source?  I.e. with public access to the code branch that is being worked on?

I am sorry Echelon9, I have been distracted from MCO. Working on another code and completely forgot to upload MCO project.

Entire project is 5-6 GB.

Re: ver. 240 bug reporting
That would be due to game content though - surely the source code is much smaller, even with included and packaged libaries?

MECHCOMMANDER OMNITECH

9 out of 10 voices in my head always tell me that I'm not insane. The 10th is only humming the melody of TETRIS.

gentlemen, i am but a simple BT/MW fan and i have really enjoyed playing MCO.  with my busy schedule between the navy and family life, i really only get to play ont he weekends.  well i recently upgraded to version 240 and before hand it was running just fine, but now the game crashes everytime i go to launch a mission.  it will get about 30% loaded on the bar and crash.  the only exception is with Exodus.  Please, im begging for help, this is the game i wake up to on the weekends with a cup of coffee while the wife and kids are still sleeping.

Welcome to our forum. Unfortunately, since our coder (the only one who can really read something out of these errors) is also a family person and not available on the weekend. The only suggestion I can give you atm (since it worked before) is to uninstall and reinstall again

Sorry for no better help, Magic might say something about this on monday.

That would be due to game content though - surely the source code is much smaller, even with included and packaged libaries?

Sorry to bug the devs, but I really think I could make some strides fixing these memory corruption crashes reported regularly.

In order to do that, I'd need the latest source code version.

If the MS release of source code + in-game media assets is really multi-gigs, then I'd strongly argue in favour of extracting the source code alone as a project to host on SVN / GitHub, while managing the larger in-game media assets separately.

Well I'm no coder, I maintain aircrew flight equipment for a living, but Exodus seems to work just fine so ill play that one for now.  That being said, it leads me to believe that maybe my other campaigns are out of date.

That was it, I redownloaded my campaigns and they all work now.  I appologize for the confusion.

No need to apologize..., it's all right. And good to hear that it's now working. Have fun with it ;)

Win 7 32-bit
1. Tons of crashes, often in the MechLab, when removing items.  And if I Alt-Tab back to MC2 from another game (like Fishdom 3).  Alt-Tabbing back from Notepad is OK.
2. Mouse Scroll Wheel often unhooks from program.  Does not function.  Alt-tabbing, then returning, solves it.  I do use WizMouse for scrolling windows under cursor.
3. After setting several run waypoints, then panning camera, all icon graphics went to super-low resolution.  Including map.  But not play field.  Most of logistics phase screen blurred as well.  Fixed by re-starting.  (MC2 Magic Modified Campaign: Steiner - M4).
4. After setting several jump waypoints, then panning camera, doing other things; I found that Dagger, in a Catapult, was stuck.  could not move at all.  Reported "Path Blocked".  It was not.  Could not walk, run, jump, move to attack or capture.  Shutdown & Startup did not help.  Tried to repair, mech would not shutdown for repair.  I shot off her leg, mech fell down, did not get up.  Repair then worked, but still could not move.  Exiting program and restarting did not fix.  Mission required movement to extraction point (she was just out of range); could not extract without having her eject.  So I lost the mech.  (MC2 Magic Modified Campaign: Steiner - 9 - Bandit HQ Assault).   :banghead:

Hi.  I wrote the different rules for missile LOS awhile ago, thought I'd check in.  Overall, this looks great :)

I really feel like somebody needs to:

1.  Play through Exodus, correct all the ABL goofs, balance issues etc.  For example, a_0_3 is literally unwinnable over here, the Clan groups attack at the start, instead of waiting for the player to hit the trigger.

As another example, there's nothing worth buying throughout the campaign.  No point in having money if there's nothing to do with it :)

Basically, I'd rather that Exodus was hard because I have to kill 600 tons with 150 than because I can't buy anything, buy repair vehicles, etc., so I'm rebuilding a lot of the missions over here :)

2.  Weapon balance needs a lot of work.  Weapons that eat multiple spaces should be more efficient than weapons that use just one space, due to the way that spaces work.  I did a rough rebal as a starting-place, it's attached :)

I read somewhere about switching to a MW IV style- please don't, it pigeonholed 'mechs and literally made it impossible to use all the slots.

3.  If you really want help on the code, you need to open the source and put it on Git/SVN/etc. and document how to get the engine to compile (which, IIRC, was a pain, because it uses old stuff).  Both things are necessary; you can't get much serious help on code if we're not allowed to fork it and try things out, for example.

4.  Karl's Purchase File Editor's Open button doesn't work over here.  Save and Exit work.  It also writes out different Pilot files than the Exodus / Carver V versions, and the code for pilots apparently doesn't keep them from mission to mission, which means you have to rebuild every single Purchase file and then they have abilities they probably shouldn't.

5.  It'd be really nice to be able to open, save and edit ABL files in the editor instead of not even knowing what's assigned to what, etc., let alone be able to test it.  The whole process of mission creation is really over-complicated and murky atm :)

there is a sneaky trick to mission 3 of Exodus. Use your resources

I know what you're talking about, and you should probably test it right now; it doesn't work as designed.

The Clan's already in range of the Ambulance with LRMs by the time your resources can be used; either 'mech speeds increased on the Clan stuff or other changes to the balance screwed the timing up.

Ok I will replay it, I think I have played it since 240 but could be wrong, will let you know how I get on :)

Please do; so far as I could determine, it just needed a smallish change in terms of timing, or a wait built into the ABL; I know that Exodus is supposed to be hard, but it should have a well-tuned difficulty ramp, too :)

xenoargh, thank you.

I will try exo. miss. 3. Even if you salvage that Hunchback you cant get to the trigger point in time?

I have the latest version of the code uploaded to our ftp, we will work on svn...

Yes.  I tried probably a dozen times, then I just modified the mission and gave the Ambulance more hitpoints

Have you tried Pausing the mission, moving the camera to the base and salvaging the Hunchback, and (still paused) moving the camera to where you want the Hunchback and your already selected mechs to go?

I've tried this mission many times, and there seems to be no problems. Maybe this could also be a difficulty level issue (though that's unlikely)
