Another hardware thread
I don't keep up with this stuff, but I'm just about sick and tired of my laggy entry level HD 6450. Wondering what the current best performance/price ratio card is on the market currently, AMD or Nvidia, doesn't matter to me, though I suppose AMD would be a bit more convenient due to drivers.

Re: Another hardware thread
im sick and tired of people misusing the word lag. i remember when lag specifically meant network latency. not the slowdown that comes from people incorrectly configuring their game's graphics settings for their video card's capabilities. (or the slowdown that comes from south koreans running starcraft 2 on machines that can barely run starcraft 1).
I can no longer sit back and allow communist infiltration, communist indoctrination, communist subversion, and the international communist conspiracy to sap and impurify all of our precious bodily fluids.

Re: Another hardware thread
From what I understand, it kinda depends on the use case. I'm running an Nvidia 650 GTX and it's serviceable up to 1080p in most games at fairly high settings, for (when I bought it right after release) $119.99, and in that price range it's an excellent card. Handles 3 screens without Displayport as well, unlike AMD, as long as you get a non-reference card with the outputs to do it.

I've actually kind of lost touch with AMD graphics chips in the last year or two, so I can't really speak for them. Reviews are generally helpful. From what I've seen, Nvidia's 660 at around $220 seems to be a pretty good balance of price and performance, giving you the power to run more or less any game maxed on a single screen, with fairly good multi-screen support. If you don't mind being a generation behind, the 560 ti's are on sale for significant discounts right now, and with that they are pretty good value.

Yeah yeah, I know the correct terminology nuke, I didn't expect people to care a whole lot.

I'll check the 560 out, don't have much money to blow at the moment.

Re: Another hardware thread
Just took a second look and the cards with the huge discounts are on the 560's, not the 560 ti's - at least here in Canada. Still a fairly good card though.

i got the 560 when it came out and its not bad for its price. it also feels less like installing a cinder block into your computer than my previous video card.
